In the video she had some “valley girl” snobby facial expressions and sounds. I was NOT impressed. She came off as nasty.

This demonstrates IMHO how lying is a part of them but also of politicians in general and lawyers in general. It's just that we don't usually see the caveat at the end. We would get only the "My brother is a missionary in Haiti."
Makes you wonder what comes after Ted's "I have never been unfaithful to my wife", but in lawyerese.

I wonder if that has any meaning to body language experts? She thought about her lie for a second, decided she should qualify it with the truth, and did so but her eyes were closed. Maybe just a normal facial expression for her, I don't know. I do know they told her to exalt and build up her family---but in the end she just couldn't go THAT far.
Finally, I’ll say this. Can you imagine if Melania, in her Barbara Walters interview, for example, had lied and said her brother was a missionary somewhere. It would be bigger than the Natl Equirer, the Iowa Steal, and every other Cruz scandal and lie combined. The mainstream media would be all over it. Anderson Cooper would do a special, “Do we want a First Lady who LIES?”

The TRUTH would be as good and maybe better than the lie, but instinctively---or perhaps she was coached---Heidi embellished the story and no kidding, this is a case of what the meaning of "is" is. She's an MBA but sure talks like a J.D.
Pure and simple, it was SPIN. Doctors are greedy and rich; missionaries are good and caring. I think that was the reason for the spin whether is was instinctive on Heidi's part, or calculated. That sounds like what liberals do---put a PC twist on reality to make it more palpable to their PC friends.

As you say, the embellishment wasn’t necessary.
As you also stated, the truth was even better.
