There have been a dozen “debates,” but not one real debate. Why bother?
Your Cruz may have been a great college debater, but he’s been flat and whiny on the televised “debates.” And hasn’t won a single one. Why would you subject him to more?
I heard Brian Kilmeade on a program last night saying the morning people had been trying to book Cruz also and he was not making himself available either.
What is embarassing is that we have so-called conservatives who think that a candidate's recitation of the Conservative Canon, like it was a liturgical magic incantation, is what is important. They are so blinded by their bullet point thinking that they fail to see the big picture. Conservatives used to think strategically about the big picture and dream big things. Now they dissect the ins and outs of punishment for abortion, various plans to let 30 million invaders stay in the country, and the strategy for surrendering on gay marriage, instead of figuring out that the way to implement conservatism is to defeat communists and bring people together as Americans, the way Trump is doing.
No one in the Republican party has inspired a coalition of people the way Trump has, and no one since Reagan did that. He will get crossover votes, and he can carry NY, Pennsylvania, Michigan and make the battleground states irrelevant. They will be with him, too.
What can Cruz do? Nothing. He's a stiff, likely philandering, pantywaist with a squeaky voice and overarching ambition. He can't even hold Romney's states for the Republicans, and they will never hand him the nomination in any event. By continuing to fight for Cruz, you are only making it more likely that Hillary will be President.
So, the embarassment is that conservatives look at the Gordian Knot that is the problem of restoring America to greatness, and they try to figure out a way that maybe if they pull this string or tug in just the right way, they can untie it. They call for committees and offer money and find the best and the brightest to come up with a way that the myriad threads can be unravelled to unveil a solution to the problem.
Trump walks up with a machete and cuts it straight through, and says "onward, this way!" And proceeds to do the things that need to be done to overcome the 28 years of Democrat destruction and Republican fecklessness that characterize the post-Reagan era.
Go read your National Review and snivel some more.

There hasn’t actually been a REAL debate. What had been called a “debate” by the MSM this primary cycle has been nothing but a smear-you-smear-me babblefest.

There is no Trump coalition. He’s got 37% of the total primary votes, and he’s alienated the 63% who didn’t vote for him. His negatives are huge, especially among women. The mythology that he can bring people from across the isle is an embarrassing attempt by fallen conservatives to justify voting for a NYC liberal.
I tried to like Trump, I really did. But he’s got no conservative instincts - based on what he himself has said in the last year.
Islam? Trump said less than a year ago we should control our criticism of Islam so as not to incite jihadi mass murderers. He said recently there will be exceptions to his Muslim ban - rich Muslim friends of Donald are still OK. He wants to cut NATO funding to spend more on the inner cities. He thinks two of the top three jobs of the FEDERAL government are education and healthcare. He thinks the economy does better under Democrats. He’s for increased federal snooping on citizens and insists on continued Federal control of western lands over local control. He thinks taxpayer funding of Planned Parenthood, a liberal lobbying group, is okay as long as they don’t do abortions.
These are not shadowy extrapolations based on who endorsed him or what bank gives him a loan. They are all straight out of the Donald’s mouth.
Trump has a machete alright, but he’s hacking on the wrong targets and heading in the wrong direction if one is a conservative.

If Trump does nothing but blow up the RNC and its stranglehold over the process, that will have been enough. It will allow future conservative leaders to come to the fore without being attacked endlessly by party leaders and their useful idiots.
If he also builds a wall and enforces the border, which I believe is a promise he will keep, that will save the nation from a demographic change of massive proportions that will prevent conservatives from ever winning any national race in the future. If he does that as well, I will consider him to have been a great president.
If he sends back ISIS refugees, blows the hell out of them in the Middle East and implements better controls on their visits to the US, it will be another bonus. I believe he is serious about doing these things.
He's already better than any of the other choices and I haven't even gotten to trade or guns or taxes. But keep working for Hillary, that's what continuing to fight Trump is really doing.
Those aren’t GOPe talking points. They’re Donald Trump talking points. He said them all.

I thought Trump did pretty good with Chris Matthews. I was sorry to see him walk back his comments. If abortion was made criminal then yes a women that hires someone to abort her child should be punished. Just like when someone hires a hit man they are punished too. Trump should have held firm. Oh well, all that really matters is that he WILL build the wall and he WILL repatriate illegals.

Donald has only been a joke at the debates and everyone knows it. It is so bad Trump has tried to skip them only to get hammered in the state he did.
Not saying Trump is an idiot, he knows his bread and butter is not on stage and if I were him I would hide too.
Trump will never do the mass deportations he talks about. You’ll either see the status quo on deportations or less. Trump was for legalizing illegals 4 years ago and has said “at this point” he won’t negotiate the idea of deportation away. He made no such qualifier on building the wall. He’ll build the wall, and the big door he’s promised, but the mass deportation will never happen.
