So the political world has been abuzz over the last day or so with the news that Trump campaign manager Corey Lewandowski manhandled Breitbart reporter Michelle Fields. Most people have focused on the servile deference Breitbart has given the Trump campaign afterwards, as though that were some surprising or newsworthy item. Personally, I do not care what Breitbart does, since it has been obvious for months that they are basically the PR arm of the Trump campaign, so its perfectly obvious that they arent going to criticize Lewandowski.
Whats interesting about this whole debacle is the Trump campaigns response to it.
The statement was issued in the wee hours of Wednesday morning but remains Breitbarts official comment on the matter, hours after sources said Lewandowski acknowledged to Breitbarts Washington political editor, Matthew Boyle, that he did manhandle Fields.
Lewandowskis explanation to Boyle, said these sources, was that he and Fields had never met before and that he didnt recognize her as a Breitbart reporter, instead mistaking her for an adversarial member of the mainstream media. Trumps press secretary, Hope Hicks, didnt respond to an email seeking comment. Nor did the usually responsive Boyle.
So, to be clear, Lewandowski would have been cool with manhandling a female reporter if she had been with a real news organization, but since she was with Breitbart, hes kind of sort of sorry about the whole incident.
This kind of stuff is what makes me more resistant to the idea of voting for Trump than any of Trumps, um, flexibility when it comes to policy issues. Trump is clearly fostering an environment that really does seem pretty totalitarian in nature and in which all enemies of Trump are fair game (in the minds of Trump supporters) for physical or legal abuse.

Fox News' Michelle Fields meets Mark Dice at Bilderberg 2012
Being a conservative anything, makes that entity not real? Being conservative is a good thing.........Breitbart is as good as the Daily Kos, with Breitbart being more factual....inmho
Pretty CLASSELESS. That guy sounds like an A-Hole and clown. She should sue him for assault.
It will be interesting to see what Trump does with this.
Trump was right! He could shoot someone and his brain dead supporters would not care.
Trump is dangerous. He will kill America. His election would be the greatest of disasters.
I’ll never, ever vote for a dim, but I and many a friend are sitting this one out.
[She should sue him for assault.]
I agree. And I’m a Trump supporter. Let her put her money where her mouth is. Hopefully when she loses she can pay Trump back for the legal fees.
I don't believe anything she says.
[Ill never, ever vote for a dim, but I and many a friend are sitting this one out.]
NEWSFLASH genius... by sitting out, you ARE voting for a Dem!
Don’t hear much about the reporter who was body slammed to the ground at some dem event. Odd.
[I don’t believe anything she says. ]
Exactly. Any proof??? There were cameras all over the place. If this indeed actually happen, someone would have certainly caught it!
I’d like to manhandle that, baby.
“How does a campaign assult somebody?
When the CAMPAIGN MANAGER grabs someone hard enough to leave a bruise and the woman falls to the ground, just for asking a question. It doesn’t seem hard to understand unless you are trying to use semantics to dismiss the alleged incident.
I agree completely and will join you in my recliner!
Assaulted? What actions did the "assault" consist of?
Grabbed her by the arm and pulled her to the ground. Read her own words on Breitbart news.
Go ye hence then, and never darken my doorstep again.
