This should be the perfect contest to judge the influence of the Romney Campaign, and yes, it is a Campaign.
Romney took over 62% of the vote in the 2012 primary.
Idaho has a 23% Mormon population and a 22% Evangelical population.
Idaho is a closed primary.
Donald Trump has a 13 to 19 point lead in current polls.
Keep an eye on Michigan too....Romney’s is state republican chair.
I like his promise of a wall. Unfortunately, he really cannot articulate much of anything else. You can only get so far slinging insults and discussing your penis size. Eventually people realize that they're choosing a president.
There are two Idahos. The panhandle and west side (District #1) are fairly evenly split between Catholic, Mormon and Evangelical. The east side (District #2) has a strong Mormon plurality in some areas and an outright majority as you get closer to the Utah and Wyoming borders.
What’s with the weird districting at Boise and does that dilute the eastern block?
As a Mormon myself, with family in Idaho in politics, I have heard them complain on more than one occasion that if they could just get the Mormons out to vote that they could get more of their conservative candidates to win and it would be enough to give them the edge. But because they wouldn’t vote in high enough numbers, liberals and liberal agendas were winning the day in many cases where it should not have happened. Needless to say, that was a few years ago but I still think it may be the case. I’m not sure about Mitt’s robocalls effectiveness. I guess we will know by tonight. The point is that Mormons don’t always vote.
Personally, I am very upset with Mitt. And if you want to hit him with a Mormon phrase that might give him pause, just say that he’s “gone Gadianton”. (It’s probably worse than calling him Hitler)
I wonder how Cruz’s Evangelicals feel about Romney & his Mormons pulling him over the line in Idaho? Seems a bit ironic.
Just did another search....Here is the latest I’ve found (Trump +11)

It is just too bad that there aren't enough Pennsylvanians outside the Philadelphia area who are united to do the same thing with Philly. Scranton (Bob Casey Jr's hometown) is even more corrupt than Philly. Pittsburgh, Harrisburg and Erie are a little sympathetic to that type of corruption and, collectively, those five too often outvote the rest of our state.
I get the PA reference. I live in Eastern WA and thus have effectively no say in national politics let alone state.
My sister-in-law attends Liberty University and tells me there is a large LDS church right in the same neighborhood as LU where three different congregations attend. Their members include LU students and even a handful of faculty just as Provo, Utah (home of Brigham Young University) includes Evangelical students and faculty.
The idea that we have to have a purity test on religion or politics to vote for conservatives is a leftard idea in the extreme. The leftards manage to turn out groups which would normally be killing each other (e.g. Muslim Radicals and Godless secularists, Black and Hispanic gang bangers, etc.) to vote against conservative candidates and principals. It is way overdue that our side learns to do the same.
That’s a dumb measuring stick. There are lots of Mormons in idaho. Watch Mississippi or Michigan.
i have a bad feeling trump will lose in idaho and Hawaii. But hes big test is in michigan. If he wins in michigan where its an open primary that means hes crossover appeal
I would feel great about it.
I appreciate anyone who will vote for a pro-life, pro-traditional marriage, pro-family, pro-God, pro-capitalism, and pro 2nd amendment candidate.
Do the Mormons consider him a draft dodger like so many RC’s and Protestants do?
I don’t know the answer to that. Best guess, no effect as it hasn’t been an issue to this point.
Seeing that Trump is up by double digits in polling and this is a closed primary, I think it’s the perfect opportunity to gage a Pro Romney/Anti Trump vote.
Are the RC’s liberal catholic or Roman Catholic by & large?
It is interesting that Islamic Dearborn will support the party of sodomy & abortion.
Cruz beat Trump by 20 points, so Cruz beat Trump by 20. So the polls were 33-39 off? Thanks, for the poll link also.
