At 81 years old, U.S. Sen. Richard Shelby, R-Ala., isn't ready to call it a career.
"I feel good. I've got a lot of energy, I've got a lot of purpose, too," Shelby said during an interview last week at the Renaissance Ross Bridge resort in Hoover. "I want to be [in Washington] for a reason: To represent the people of Alabama, and I think people understand that."
(SNIP)
This month, his campaign launched a website attacking the 33-year-old McConnell's integrity.
Is there anyone with a surname of Trump running in a congressional primary?
Being cryptic is not your friend. I have no idea what you are saying, or trying to say. Spell it out please.
Sessions has said kind things about shelby. Shelby was originally a dem and not as conservative but he keeps getting reelected for some reason.
Of course he doesn’t want to call it a career, his Chamber of Commerce buddies probably still have a great need for ones like him and Thad Cochran and Graham and McCain to keep using the taxpayer as their giant credit card.
At 81 he should retire. Please Alabama primary this guy with a younger conservative. We don’t need a Republican version of Robert Byrd serving until he is 102
Shelby wants Cochran gone so he gets to lead appropriations and get pork to Alabama not Mississippi.
Trump ought to campaign for a challenger to some RINO in a primary.
We go to Mississippi once a year for a week of vacation. Have also visited Alabama. Did not see a whole lot of evidence of pork projects in Mississippi. If there are any, they are going into someones pocket.
Retire Sen. Shelby, please.......
First I have heard that Shelby has intra-party opposition. I predict Shelby will win big; it is AL, and incumbency means a lot there.
Tell that to Fob James and the late Admiral Denton. Shelby needs to hang it up after 38 years in Congress.
If he’s reelected, he’ll be a few months short of 89 at the end of that term (January 2023, he was born in 1934).
Shelby is a putz. A real “hold my nose” vote. The campaign he ran as a democrat against Jeremiah Denton, a real American hero, was the nastiest lie fest I have ever seen.
Comparing Shelby to Thad, Graham and McCain shows complete ignorance.
I will be voting for Shelby again.
Well I have been doing that for years to no avail. :-).
I met him and his wife at the airport in Tampa after the Convention. He was very gracious; a true gentleman.
I’m surprised he doesn’t want to jump on the K Street lobbyist gravy train like all the others.
Who is running against Shelby? Is the primary March 1 too? I know AL once had primaries the first Tuesday in May.
The one that ought to be defeated in the primary is Burr in NC.
