New NBC/Marist Poll: Cruz Within Striking Distance of The Donald in South Carolina

According to a new NBC/Marist poll, Ted Cruz is within striking distance of Donald Trump in South Carolina. Whereas Cruz was trailing Trump by a massive 16% one month ago, he's now come within 5%:

"In the latest NBC News/Wall Street Journal/Marist Poll of South Carolina conducted after Saturday’s GOP debate, businessman Donald Trump, 28%, edges Texas Senator Ted Cruz, 23%, by only 5 points among likely Republican primary voters statewide including those who are undecided yet leaning toward a candidate or who voted by absentee ballot."

The establishment's frontrunner, Marco Rubio, is stuck at 15%, the poll shows, and he's closely followed by that other establismentarian Jeb! Bush, who is currently supported by 13% of likely Republican primary goers.

Unlike some of the other South Carolina polls released in recent days, this poll was conducted completely after last Saturday's debate in which Trump went full Iraq War Truther. As a result, the billionaire businessmen has lost support across the board, albeit especially among those who earn less than $50.000 a year. In other words: blue collar voters.

Trump is now also trailing Cruz among South Carolina voters who describe themselves as "very conservative": 22% versus 42%. And his double digit lead among Tea Party conservatives one month ago has been transformed into a small but important 4% deficit: 31% versus 35%. Amazingly, Trump -- who says he has never asked God for forgiveness despite trying to abuse eminent domain to take an old lady's home and cheating on his first wife Ivana Trump -- is still very competitive with Cruz among Evangelical voters, 29% versus 26%. Other than that, the poll shows that momentum is now against Trump and for Cruz...

When/if others drop out, where will their support likely be thrown? That would be a big question here.

I would guess the bulk of Yeb's half dozen or so supporters will go to "Senor Amnesty", Marco. Kasich and the Doc probably won't formally drop out, but just "curtail" campaigning and hope for a VP bid.

That could get Marco breathing down Ted’s neck, though.

The WSJ is FULL OF $HIT!

Trump leads in every national poll around 20% state and Nationally.

They are just covering their butts now for credibility.

They love money more then the USA. Despicable b@stards!

I use to respect them. NO MORE!

Also counting Trump support to Democrats... that is a dynamic statistic; it has dwindled, in fact, to a nice round zero. He’s made enemies of the GOP in many ways including bold flouting of GWB. But no more in this way.

We might as well just laugh rather than getting enrage.

This whole country is lousy with lies.

Anyone who even TRIES to be telling the truth (and Trump seems to be on such a jag, even if for seemingly selfish reasons) is going to be viewed as the pooper of such a party. Who’s Trump going to gore the sacred ox of, next? Nobody knows! He’s a loose cannon here! Unpredictable! To see liars pile on Trump should be no surprise.

Ted Cruz is fading badly.....Marco Rubio has caught and now passed him in many recent polls. Anyone that casts a vote for Ted Cruz is simply throwing their valuable vote away. The non-stop lies from the mouth of Ted Cruz have sunk him. The Primary finish Saturday night in South Carolina will be:

- Donald John Trump - Winner

- Marco Rubio - second

- Ted Cruz - third

- John Kasich - fourth

- Ben Carson - fifth

- Jeb Bush - sixth

The eventual race for the GOP POTUS nomination will be between Donald J. Trump & Marco Rubio!!! GO DONALD TRUMP!!!

Sometimes that set CAN think it is the whole world, when it isn’t.

That’s why, for example, FR thought Mitt Romney was going to fly, if only because he was barely tolerable... but the result was an Obama rout. It was blind to larger trends.

They all know as long as they can stay around they will have a ton of stroke when the brokered convention arrives on time.

Lots of deals will be made, the party will take control and we may end up with Paul Ryan as a candidate.

I don’t gloat on Ted. I’m a Christian and Ted seems to be, as well. But Ted hasn’t gotten to the level yet in the Jesus School Of Hard Knocks that I have gotten to. Maybe a little spoiled from his parentage, who thought he was simply predestined to great things, even greater than the bible itself proposes?

Ted looks poised to take a spill, skin his political knees, but let’s not tell time merely by the second hand of the clock. He almost surely will be back, perhaps under more auspicious circumstances. And who knows maybe Donald will turn out in some matter to be a Trump of God yet.

Um... if the party tries that, there will be “hell toupee.” I think we can count on this.

Polls are polls but it seams that 1 candidates supporters must claim any poll that is not yugh for them it is a lie, cheat or hit piece. really sad.

The age of accurate polls is gone, if it ever existed at all people think its a math problem but it far from that. Maybe 1/2 science at best the rest is an art.

To imply that is what I am doing is NONSENSE, pure bullcrap. This poll is an outlier.

I place you on notice.

When this poll is shown to be pure garbage, you will be mercilessly mocked.

If Trump does not go to Cleveland with 50% plus 1 delegates you can bet your house it will happen. It was planned years ago with the intention of stopping Cruz and replacing him with Bush but they will kill two birds with one stone and eliminate Trump as well.

If they do not settle on Rubio for some reason they will bring in an outsider. Romney, Ryan or ????.

What is just as interesting is how the DNC will get rid of Bernie if Hillary is indicted and they want to slip in Biden in her place.

Tactics and strategies with potential outcomes could make this election cycle a hell of a book.

Well yes, Trump will need a strong enough showing. This could yet materialize.

And, something like Trump getting Rubio and/or Carson to throw to him would immensely help... that changes those delegates.

Carson has already proposed to be veep. Could Trump take Rubio under his wing? There have been weirder things.
