Trump and Cruz: What is a Conservative?
Canada Free Press ^ | 02/15/16 | Jim O'Neill

Posted on 02/15/2016 9:20:12 AM PST by Sean_Anthony

Professional politician Bernie Sanders talks about a revolution. Well Trump is the revolution

I heartily accept the motto, “That government is best which governs least;” and I should like to see it acted up to more rapidly and systematically. Carried out, it finally amounts to this, which I also believe, “That government is best which governs not at all;” and when men are prepared for it, that will be the kind of government which they will have.—Henry Thoreau (1817-1862) “Civil Disobedience”

To hear some conservative elitists tell it you would think that to be considered a true conservative you need a special handshake, secret decoder ring, and a notarized certificate stating your conservative bona fides in triplicate. The truth is much simpler.

The traditional political spectrum runs from Big Government on the left (liberal) to limited or no government on the right (conservative). If you favor limited or no government then you are a political conservative, period. For example, today we would call Henry Thoreau a political conservative.

The word “conservative” can be used in a number of ways.

I’m looking for candidates who are constitutionalists, rooted in a judeo-christian world view.

How an Obscure Adviser to Pat Buchanan Predicted the Wild Trump Campaign in 1996

The Week dot com ^ | Michael Brendan Dougherty

Imagine giving this advice to a Republican presidential candidate: What if you stopped calling yourself a conservative and instead just promised to make America great again?

What if you dropped all this leftover 19th-century piety about the free market and promised to fight the elites who were selling out American jobs?

What if you just stopped talking about reforming Medicare and Social Security and instead said that the elites were failing to deliver better healthcare at a reasonable price?

What if, instead of vainly talking about restoring the place of religion in society something that appeals only to a narrow slice of Middle America. You simply promised to restore the Middle American core, the economic and cultural losers of globalization to their rightful place in America?

What if you said you would re store them as the chief clients of the American state under your watch, being mindful of their interests when regulating the economy or negotiating trade deals?

“I wish Ted Cruz no ill will whatsoever—I agree with much of what he says and think he would make a fine Attorney General. But POTUS? While I believe that it’s possible he could win the Republican nomination, I don’t for a minute believe that he could garner enough votes to win a national general election.”

Soooooo sick of this lie. The Trumpettes LOVE to talk about polls, and how well their man is doing in the PRIMARY polls. Fine. Let’s talk about polls.

RCP Averages:

Trump vs Clinton - +4.7 CLINTON

Cruz vs Clinton - +0.2 CRUZ

Now - why do we keep hearing this LIE about Cruz being unable to win a general election and Trump being able to?

Trump. Will. Lose.

Trump convinced me NOT to vote for him in the latest debates ... for SURE!

Sorry Donald, you are not what America needs as President of the UNITED STATES of AMERICA!. FOR SURE!

Oh really. Explain the 5 point difference in head to heads.

You can’t. Trump is a train wreck waiting to happen. The latest preview was his meltdown at the last debate.

I dislike Cruz now. He is absolutely unfair and horrible. He is NOT a good Christian. He’s not even fair or honest. The lies he tells are so bald faced. He is fully owned and will not be able to do a thing with his precious “conservative principles” which don’t include honesty.

I regret my donations.

And don't forget these poll numbers for "the most electable" Trump:

Even if the second choice number is wrong by half, Trump could be looking at trying to beat the Dem in the general with only 80% of the Republicans. Trump's scorched earth insults and attacks are building more enemies than friends. His negatives are higher than his positives. He can get the nomination with his 40%, but he can't win the general with it alone.

Meanwhile, Trump's major critisizm of Cruz for "likability" is the Senate with the worst approval rating since they have been tracking approval ratings doesn't like him. As if the same Americans that gave that Senate that approval rating will hold it against Cruz.

Trump’s definition of a Conservative when he was interviewed....

“I think it’s a person that doesn’t want to take overly risks....a person that wants to, in terms of government I’m talking about, a person that wants to conserve.”

BTW...

Alert!!!!....Trump speaking from podium today....again sending out signals he made a pledge and the Rep. Party needs to get their act together or he’ll go third party.....

Trump needs to be ignored...let the creep go third party!

Well then you can follow Trump to third party.....he just warned of this yet again today......I hope that he goes third party!...then we can have a real Presidential run of true candidates that take this seriously.

Stunned that people would choose a bought and paid for typical politician over the chance to have someone working for the people. There is nothing Trump wants to do that doesn’t fit my constitutional conservative goals for this country.

He is winning. He won’t go third party. He deserves to say that the RNC is not honoring their pact. They are not.

This should show you the value of Trump. The two headed uniparty AND the media hates him. Please consider this. We are at a crossroads and a candidate fully owned by international industry won’t help.

....”There is nothing Trump wants to do that doesn’t fit my constitutional conservative goals for this country.”....

The you aren’t listening to what he’s saying.......his positions are not conservative and never were.....wearing a conservative hat and borrowing buzzwords to “appear” as so is the only way he can win...the demorats rejected him or he could have run against Obama......he didn’t.

Exactly,

DT and his crew - live off polls that show him up YUGE but ignore any poll that doesn’t and they also ignore the general election head to head polls the shows DT LOSING.

I predict DT may win a plurality in SC but will get significantly less than his YUGE polling lead.

He said that today.....the media doesn’t hate him...how on earth can you say that? They love him he brings in great ratings because of his fan base and celebrity position....not to mention Trump knows to be outrageous enough when they stop .....he will always do that to keep them engaged.

Trump does not represent what he states he does.....did you not hear ho speak at the debate where he revealed so?....or are your ears just dull of hearing? I mean no disrespect by that but for whatever reasons things Trump says go right over the heads of Trumspters...including his great contempt of them.

If Trump goes third party, and I hope that he does.....it has nothing to do with his value...it has to do with he knows his followers are ready to follow him to wherever he leads....but I would like to think his followers understand what that would mean and not follow....I don’t think they will.

Unfortunately we don’t have another candidate in the pack that can win. We would probably end up with Jeb and he’s not going to beat the dem. (forget the two cubans, they can’t win either).

.......”Unfortunately we don’t have another candidate in the pack that can win.”..............

Sure we do....Cruz was the favorite here for a long time....everyone was excited....but they’ve forgotten why they were so because Trump gives them candy and glitter....instead of the food they really need.
