Rubio Hits Cruz With a Surprise Left Hook: ‘He Doesn't Speak Spanish’ Watch How Cruz Responds

GOP presidential contenders Sens. Ted Cruz and Marco Rubio continued their ongoing feud over immigration during Saturday night’s debate, but as the vocal South Carolina audience got involved, the pair let the insults fly. Cruz said Rubio “supports citizenship for 12 million people here illegally. In addition to that, Marco went on Univision in Spanish and said he would not rescind President Obama’s illegal executive amnesty on his first day in office,” Cruz said. “I have promised to rescind every single executive action, including that one.” Rubio wasn’t having any of that. “Well first of all,” the Florida senator replied, “I don’t know how he knows what I said on Univision because he doesn’t speak Spanish.” With that, Cruz responds to Rubio in Spanish.

I don’t think Cruz thought it as anything but a great comeback to Rubio which it was.

I know you are OWED a Cruz president.... Still does not change the FACT that it was hysterical to see two Cubans arguing over who was the biggest liar... forcing one to demonstrate they could speak fluent Spanish....

Rubio doesnt deserve to be on the same stage with people like Cruz, a proven REAL legal giant from Harvard, Trump, a guy who has created tens of thousands of jobs, Carson, a brilliant brain surgeon. Even Jeb and Kasich ran States somewhat successfully.

All Rubio has done since he graduated is run for office after office, always looking to get to the next level, accomplishing NOTHING, never worked an honest day in his life.

I can’t stand that twerp SOB.

IMHO, when Cruz did not answer the moderators question concerning how he was going to deport 11 million illegals but pivoted and started in on Rubio was a serious mistake.

He could have easily answered and outlined his immigration program but instead decided to start another losing fight with Rubio, which ended with the audience booing Cruz.

It simply does not impress me that a presidential candidate knows Spanish. English is the primary requirement.

Breitbart confirmed the Rubberio Univision speech today. Cruz was on the money AND got Rubberio’s goat with that fast comeback.

I don't know who came across worse last night: Was it Marco Rubio for thinking it a bad thing that a presidential candidate doesn't speak Spanish? Or was it Ted Cruz thinking it was important to let us know that he did.

You missed the point.

It had nothing to do with speaking Spanish being a good thing. It had everything to do with Cruz proving that he knew what Rubio said in Spanish and that Rubio was a lying.

Rubio went on to call Cruz a liar and Rubio insinuated that Cruz was lying about what Rubio said in Spanish.

That's when Cruz spoke Spanish.

The audience was picked by the GOP, thus the GOP attempted to handicap some of the candidates... But yes Cruz picked the fight... I do not believe for a minute he came prepared to use his Spanish speaking skills... Rubio unnerved him.... and Cruz could not resist ...

Thanks for trying to explain. I’ll have to go watch that videoclip to get the full context.

The point is that Rubio was accusing Cruz of lying about what he had said by claiming Cruz doesn't speak Spanish. By responding in Spanish, Cruz proved that it was Rubio, not he, who was lying.

It's amazing that the point has to be explained. It's easily apparent.

The lack of objectivity by some...

I suppose Cruz could deport somewhere around 11 to 12 million people like were deported during the Clinton Administration in the 90's. Per the following site:

http://www.cis.org/ICE-Illegal-Immigrant-Deportations

"Deportation totals have fluctuated over the last 30 years, peaking in 1986, 2000, and 2004. The all-time record year was 2000, the last year of the Clinton administration. In 2011, the most recent year for which all ICE and CBP totals have been reported, deportations numbered 715,495. This was the lowest year since 1973, when 585,351 deportations were effected."

I thought Cruz should have waited until he wasn’t being talked over to respond to Rubio in Spanish. Maybe ask him a question in Spanish to force a response from Rubio. That would have made Rubio look like an idiot - carrying on a conversation in Spanish with someone who he just said doesn’t speak Spanish. When those words left Rubio’s mouth I immediately said to my wife - how would he know if he speaks Spanish? I thought Rubio was a lawyer. As a lawyer you don’t ask questions you don’t already know the answers to, and as a candidate you don’t make an accusation that you have no idea as to the truth of it, especially one that can be disproved as quickly as it was. There was no upside for Rubio to make his comment. If Cruz can’t speak Spanish so what? Trump should have jumped in at that point and said something like “if we don’t build THE WALL we will ALL be speaking Spanish very soon”.

Excellent point. Cruz is getting hit hard on a bazillion accusations of lying and it was good for him to be able to expose Rubio in real time like that. It’ll help strategically. IMHO.

Peace,

SR

He should have called him a maricon instead

He didn't have the el testículo to do that, only Trump does.....just kidding

Seriously, the crap flinging needs to stop here, I hope we can unite against the real enemy, burn and hill.

After Scalia's passing, the importance just increased 1000+ fold.

Correct, that is true. However the ‘smartest man in the world had no clue’ Just as the same entity has no clue as to how to balance the checkbook.
No Sprechen Sie Deutsch My dad was German, spoke German on occasion but never taught his children the language. As we live in the southern most part of the US of A, we learned Spanish if for no other reason than the TV stations in this region tend to air more in that language than English. That and there is a variety of buttons to push...1 for English, 2 for Spanish. What will become of this when there are more languages than buttons?!!
