Distractions are Barack Obamaâs best friend.
While most of us focus on tonightâs eighth Republican debate or last weekâs Iowa caucus or what have you, 44 was busy doing something behind our backs knowing that the media wouldnât report.
However, not everyone turns the other cheek, Mr. President.
From IndependentSentinel:
The Trans Pacific Partnership, one of the biggest multinational trade deals ever, has been quietly signed by ministers from its 12 member nations in New Zealand.
The 12 nations account for some 40% of the worldâs economy â they now have two years to ratify or reject the pact.
Not a word about it in our media.
âA trade deal is a contract, and it must be one that puts American workersâ interests first, not the interests of global elites,â Senator Sessions of Alabama said in a statement. âIt is little surprise the administration is not showcasing todayâs signing given its unpopularity with the American people.â
This is something Donald Trump would call a âbad deal,â ala the Iran nuclear agreement.
A study found that 450,000 people will lose their jobs over the next nine years as part of TPP, and the measure will be brought before Congress with an up and down vote, meaning, no amendments.
After pushing through Obamacare, this is just another job-killing day for the Commander-in-Chief.
TPP is an altogether bad idea. But Ted Cruz neither wrote TPP nor voted for TPP.
In fact, as I trust you already know, TPP has not been voted on by ANYONE yet. It was merely signed by our jerk of a president. It’s toothless unless and until Congress votes on it, and “most say” it has no hope of passing.
I am 100% certain that in the unlikely event TPP even comes up for a vote prior to the election, Ted Cruz will vote NO.
TPA makes it a fast track, NT.
>> You do know that Cruz voted against the final bill.
Yes, thank you, I am aware of that. Doesn’t matter though; his support for it the first time around was still poor judgment.
Your post bears repeating.
Obama signing this is irrelevant. It still needs to be passed by Congressional majority.
There is a decent chance that it can be stopped in the House. A lot of Dems will oppose it due to the anti-labor aspects. It’ll just take a very concerted public advocacy effort by those opposed.
>> TPA makes it a fast track, NT.
Yes. And that means that TPP gets an up-or-down vote without the ability to amend it. Not that it automatically goes into effect.
With the current makeup of Congress, and the crappy provisions of the bill, it’s highly unlikely TPP will pass. Heck, one third of the ‘rats have problems with it, I’ll wager.
You are aware — are you not — that BOTH times TPA was voted on in the Senate, it passed with at least 60 votes? 62 the first time when he voted Yes.
So while Ted’s first vote was a bad idea, it was basically irrelevant to the outcome.
I’ll concede the point that he could have used his formidable persuasive skills to sway enough senators to vote against moving it forward that first time. That’s part of the disappointment.
Still, compared to Trump or ANY of the others... Cruz is the candidate I’m supporting until he wins, quits or is taken out.
Go TED! :-)
Rafael Cruzo.
It's not happening any time soon.
The only chance TPP has in congress would be after the 2016 Nov. election and before the new congress and president in Jan. 2017.
Yep.
Mrs. Cruz
Who wrote, "Expanding Opportunity Through Free Trade," as part of a book "Thank You, President Bush"?
Mrs. Cruz
No problem!
The Obama economy will create DOZENS of great service sector jobs...
Treason.
There is NO EXCUSE!
I call it TREASON because there is no more VILE CRIME imaginable. Every TRAITOR that votes for this is doing it for 30 pieces of silver and deserves their punishment. It is utterly despicable.
“This will be approved by congress by bare majorities without filibusters during the lame duck session if not sooner.”
That’s my gut feeling, too. Fortunately, what one congress passes can be modified, altered or nullified by a future congress.
Not true, when the abuse of the H1-B program became public with the Disney fiasco he did a 180 after finding out the truth. He is now 100% against it and has talked some about penalties to corps that have abused the program by displacing American workers.
But itâs not a serious enough mistake to tip the scales in favor of another candidate.
....................................................
Please tell me what is more important than the loss of American SOVEREIGNTY? TPP reduces us to one of the mob instead of an independent Sovereign nation. More One World Order crap!
So what if it has been around for 80 years. America used to be a sovereign nation and able to economically support herself. Such is no longer the case. Eighty years ago women in France couldn’t vote, either. American women had not had the right very long. NOW we are faced with intentional destruction of our NATIONS and INDIVIDUALITY. We are told NO BORDERS, NO CULTURE, NO AMERICA or FREEDOM for Americans because that is the way of the future. We are told we must be enslaved by the rest of the world and we roll over and make excuses for the jellyfish weaklings in our government who don’t give a damn as long as they can line their own pockets!
EXCUSES are crutches for WEAKLINGS!.
He could have blocked it. He didn’t!

“The other side is that âreal conservativesâ support âfree tradeâ â thatâs probably what happened. Doctrinaire conservatism says American jobs be damned.”
Poison at the Ballot Box.
Cruz will not win a national election
I agree. But too many people don’t care.
