Look at how the Democrats go after any Republican they think has caused a Democrat politician to get tossed out.
Does anybody think the Democrats would let the Russians kill a Democrat President and not go all out for revenge?

Kennedy was becoming a liability to the Democrat Party.
He may well have put the kabosh on the "Great Society" socialism in the works.
My Dad, a staunch life-long conservative, maintained that getting plugged was the best thing that ever happened to Kennedy.
Instead of washing out after one term, he became a martyr.
