How is Trump.2016 any more conservative than Romney.2012? [vanity]
Jan 27, 2016

Posted on 01/27/2016 7:42:47 AM PST by ConservingFreedom

In 2012, Mitt Romney ran on a solidly conservative platform and rhetoric, just as Trump is doing now. Yet most (IMO) FReepers agreed with Jim Robinson in vigorously opposing Romney during the primaries and supporting him, if at all, only with nose firmly held in the general election. Why? Because Romney had a record, and it was on far too many matters a liberal record. Well, Trump's many liberal public statements are at least as fresh as Romney's were ... and in some cases are ongoing (cf. "Donald Trump a Typical New York City Liberal Then and Now" - http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/3385906/posts).

How is Trump.2016 any more conservative than Romney.2012?

(NOTE: Replies about Cruz, Reagan, or anyone other than Trump and/or Romney will be implicit admissions that Trump.2016 is no more conservative than was Romney.2012.)

Trump is at least a man

So no differences related to platform or record. Got it - thanks!

Thank goodness we are not in that situation now.

LOL! I've seen no hard evidence that the Donald is a sleeper for the libs - nor any hard evidence against that theory.

Right. He in fact changed his registration 6 times.

He’s been a Republican three separate times, a Democrat twice, and an independent and a member of the New York affiliate of the Reform Party once each.

So you and other Trump supporters are out to destroy the Republican party because of the GOPe, and you decide the best/only way to do this is by electing a self avowed liberal to do the destroying?

I would believe that the best way to defeat the GOPe is by putting the most conservative candidate in the running in place to defeat their RINO (read as liberal) candidate. Destroying the GOPe using a liberal will truly destroy the Republican party while helping strengthen the Democrats/liberals.

Just because Mr. Trump says he will make America great again doesn’t mean he will do so conservatively. Obama promised to make America great again and give hope and change. All I see is a group of conservatives who are so pi**ed off at their own party that they are running off half cocked to elect someone who’s given them the same pie in the sky promises to make things great and send back illegals,that they are ignoring his past liberal remarks and acts and pushing him to the head of the line regardless of his behavior.

It’s like cutting off your nose to spite your face. If Trump gets the presidency and runs to the left, like many believe he will, will you be supportive of his actions?

Will any and all Trump supporters stand by their choice if he pushes us further left than Obama has?

Are so many people so butt hurt that they would rather choose to throw America off the cliff to avenge their anger at the GOPe?

If the GOPe is so intent on denying us a conservative candidate then why help them by choosing someone who is not a conservative? Hell, Trumps not a libertarian either. He’s told us what he is and it is, by his own admission, a Democrat.

Trump is far more conservative on immigration than Romney was, and that is a key issue, perhaps the most important or our time.

“Trump is far more conservative on immigration than Romney was”

Romney’s platform and rhetoric were plenty anti-immigration:

He may be more “conservative” on immigration than Romney (not hard to do), but what about all of the other conservative principals?

Abortion?
2nd Amendment?
Gay Marriage?

And is it really a conservative idea to deport illegals and then fast track them back in as legal citizens?

Won’t that help out the liberals more than conservatives?

Trump is more conservative because Trump is willing to fight the media cartel that has taken control of the country.

Just the willingness to fight the media is not necessarily a sign of conservatism. I think it has more to do with his ego than his principles.

Romney and Bush are administrators. Trump and Cruz are leaders. American needs a leader right now.

Differences Between Managers and Leaders:

by Warren Bennis

The manager administers;
the leader innovates.

The manager is a copy;
the leader is an original.

The manager maintains;
the leader develops.

The manager focuses on systems and structure;
the leader focuses on people.

The manager relies on control;
the leader inspires trust.

The manager has a short-range view;
the leader has a long-range perspective.

The manager asks how and when;
the leader asks what and why.

Managers have their eyes on the bottom line;
leaders have their eyes on the horizon.

The manager imitates;
the leader originates.

The manager accepts the status quo;
the leader challenges it.

The manager is the classic good soldier;
the leader is his own person.

The manager does things right;
the leader does the right thing.

Agreed. In the context of the thread topic, is that "Trump.2016 is no more conservative than Romney.2012"?

Trump isn't more conservative than Romney, but is a fighter and leader. Romney is an administrator. Trump is the only pro-America candidate that can win the general. Cruz would have a loyal conservative base in the general but has little appeal outside it.

Politics is fundamentally driven by population density. As density increases, more rules, regulations, big government, and taxes are needed to make it work, and also the less personal freedoms people have. One size doesn't fit all. It's possible for a national leader to have a mix of values. While Trump has spent most of his life in socialist Manhattan he also supports traditional American values for the 99% of America that is not big city. Manhattan couldn't survive a week without a strong and healthy America to supply the city with water, food, fuel, electricity, and a military defense.
