SPRINGFIELD - Donald Trump has threatened to initiate such a lawsuit, but he may have been beat to the punch - right here in Illinois. An objection to U.S. Senator Ted Cruz's qualifications to run for president on the Illinois Republican ballot could send shockwaves nationwide if it is sustained by the Illinois State Board of Elections next week.
Lawrence J. Joyce, an attorney and practicing pharmacist from Poplar Grove, says Cruz is not a natural born citizen as the Constitution requires, but is instead "naturalized" citizen born in the Canadian province of Alberta in 1970. That disqualifies him from running for president.
Joyce said in a statement published Friday in WorldNetDaily:
âSen. Ted Cruz was born in Canada. He has been a U.S. citizen since birth, but that was by statute. The Constitution requires one to be a ânatural bornâ citizen in order to be president. And the governing case law of the U.S. Supreme Court and the whole history of the law points to the conclusion that Ted Cruz is not a natural born citizen.
What is worse, is that Sen. Cruz has known about this problem for a long time now. Yet he has not even made any effort to clarify this in any formal setting, though he could have at least done that.
Sen. Cruz has been whistling past the graveyard all along. That he should happen to do so within the thoughts of his own mind would be one thing, but that he should now drag the entire Republican Party through a potential nightmare simply because of his negligence, his own private, wishful thinking and his lack of due diligence is inexcusable.
Joyceâs motion was filed on Friday with James Tenuto, assistant executive director of the Illinois State Board of Elections.
Joyce says he believes Dr. Ben Carson would be a better Republican nominee and president. He also is concerned that a lawsuit filed by the Democrats against Cruz could result in a Republican establishment takeover of the nomination process.
Cruz' attorney from Illinois - Sharee Langenstein - will have until January 25th to respond to Joyce's complaint.
At that time, the State Board of Elections will need to decide whether to allow Cruz on Illinois March 15th Republican primary ballot.
Several other presidential candidates - from both Democrat and Republican parties - have outstanding objections that must be decided by the Board next week.
They found a Carson supporter? Awake? ;-)
The same kind of tactic Obama used throughout his sort political pre-Presidential career.
Amazing how much Cruz and Obuma are alike...
3 year Junior Senators...
Obuma: Rev. Wright...
Cruz: His ‘Dominion’ Father...
Sealed Records both of them...
Obuma born in Kenya...
Cruz born in Canada...
Obuma: Muslim Brotherhood...
Cruz: Dominion Religion thru Father...
I like Ted Cruz and think he is a fine Senator from Texas (much better than Cornyn), but he is not any more a natural born citizen than the Marxlim usurper.
He could still be a Supreme Court justice.
There is only one position that requires a natural born citizen and there are very good reasons for that requirement.
Owebowmao should be proof enough of that.
Natural born citizen means born here of citizen parents.
No foreign parents.
No foreign births.
No other citizenship possible.
If one could be anything other than a US citizen at birth, one cannot be a natural born citizen of the US
trumps mom was not a citizen when he was born
Yes she was, she was naturalized 4 years prior to his birth
wrong, show some proof
Where was all this fire in the belly when the clown in chief was running? Just amazing how the RINOs are showing their true convictions.
I posted words to the same effect to one of the “It is o.k. for obama to do it, but Cruz can’ters” No response. The entire Republican Party was as quiet as a whore in Church about the issue the entire time Obama has been occupying the White House. Only now they start chirping, whining, and bellyaching.
Huh? Cruz is a Baptist. Have you spoken personally with him? If you are saying he believes that because his father believes that. I have news for you from experience and observation: intelligent children think for themselves and do not uniformly ascribe to parent’s interpretation of the Bible. Especially when the ‘children’ get to be 40ish and older.
The Republican Party wanted the definition changed as much as the Democrats, maybe more so because they had more ineligible candidates on the bench.
McCain, Obama, Cruz, Jindal, Rubio are all ineligible under the definition used by the founders.
Under the new definition of simply being born a citizen, every anchor baby and Winston Churchill is eligible.
Yes she was and TRUMP was born on American soil.
Oh, don’t forget Harvard Law School. ;)
and Constitutional expert.
Based on our experience with Obozo, I think the lesson we learned is standing requires the aggrieved party be persoanlly and directly harmed. That would require one of the candidates, not a supporter, file suit. I do not agree with this evasive tactic by the courts and gov’t officials since any voter who is disenfranchised by fraud of a candidate should have recourse in the courts. The fraud is an ongoing violation as soon as an unqualified candidate has his/her name placed on the ballot because to do so the candidate must sign an oath that they are qualified to hold office.
I agree with you. Fraud by a candidate impacts the voter. I have used this argument with my Secretary of State, my Attorney General and the state Republican party. So far SofS said not my problem, Attorney General and Republican party are ignoring me.
Oh yes I forgot those two...thank for reminding me....
And .. is Carson supporting this antic ..??
If so, it will hurt him.
“mazing how much Cruz and Obuma are alike...”
You also forgot to mention both are lawyers from Harvard Law School. But Cruz is the anti-Obama. They are exact opposites.
“Cruz: Dominion Religion thru Father...”
Also polar opposite from Obama. Cruz and his father are mainstream evangelical Christians. And their views being labeled “Dominion” are very much like the beliefs of the founders of the nation. Evangelicals have been so maligned in the media, that many who identify as Christian think Evangelical is some sort of cult.
Evangelical Christianity is essentially what tied all of the various Christian denominations together in a way that allowed this nation to become a union from a population of many varied backgrounds.
We can see a decline in this nation in direct correspondence to abandoning its Evangelical roots. Today, Evangelicals has no representation in the White House, none on the Supreme Court, and almost none in the legislature, despite being a sizable percentage of the population.
