Drives you nuts for sure. You can remove the program too. It should show as the most recent added program in programs and features or whatever Windows 10 has. I’m still on Windows 7 at work and at home.
A very helpful website that I found is-
Whenever you are about to install something to your pc, such as any .exe, you simply upload that .exe file to this website, and it will scan the files for you before you unpack them by way of about 40 different malware scanners.
Some times it can give a false positive, but most times it easily identifies crapware, which is often times packed in with various free downloadable programs, such as junk toolbars, adware, fake virus scanners and things of that nature.
Not necessarily viruses, but nothing that helps you or that you want on your pc.
Upload the .exe for your dictionary to the website page and scan it and see what’s in it.
Unplug the computer and plug it back in again.
He said he couldn’t find it in the uninstall program in control panel. I don’t know that its such a drastic step...it takes about five minutes to do and if he uses a restore point from a day or so ago nothing else should be changed. Piece of cake.
For a while, toolbars were the RAGE!
But they seem to have been abandoned, or at least way less effective than in the past.
I always avoid them. And using Firefox, if it gets uncontrollable, I just uninstall/reinstall.
Oh, and I am WinXP.
Nah.
Now re-imaging the C:\drive would be drastic. But I doubt he has an image created within the last week.
Pretty sure it leaves the bookmarks alone, but might as save them.

Yep, that’s the one right there. Uninstall at programs. ask.com is a pain that way.
It should be in the ‘add ons’ manager from within the browser menu bar. It can be removed there. The problem with system restore is that it can also UNDO anything ELSE you did since you installed the unwanted menu bar or program.
I don't know much about computers. Question I have is, if you do a system restore does it get rid of any pictures or documents you have on your computer?
No. it will not effect any data.
Yes, but most people don't make that many system changes on a day to day basis. Generally you are restoring the computer to the point it was at yesterday or the day before. At most you may have installed another program during that period in which case you would have to reinstall it. But that's pretty rare as most people don't install new programs ever other day.
I cannot find it in the programs.
After uninstalling, I second running Malwarebits. It’s free and cleaned up a computer at work with a lot of Ask.com crap on it.
People need to read the screens on updates before hitting OK. Updates often have browers and crap on them with default check boxes for downloads.
Lol!
Click on "add ons".
Disable / Remove the Ask toolbar.
Thanks to all for your suggestions! Freepers are the smartest and best. Now I have to try some of them!
Thanks for the information.
