I like Donald Trump and would support him for president if he were the nominee. Even with another northeastern liberal Republican -- Scott Brown, who Trump has floated as a VP candidate -- on the ticket.
But my clear favorite is Ted Cruz, because he's the one Constitutional conservative who actually goes to war for what he believes. In 2013, he single handedly shut down the government in an effort to defund Obamacare (a promise that Mitch McConnell made to voters in Kentucky that he quickly abandoned). He called out his own party's leader on the Senate floor for lying to conservatives. He's meant what he's said and he's said what he meant, something precious few politicians ever do.
What does Donald Trump actually stand for? What do we call the Trump movement? Does it have successors as Cruz appears to be to Reagan?
Given a choice between Cruz and Trump, it would appear the GOP establishment has figured it can work with the Donald. So says the Washington Post and many others:

"A lot of donors are trying to figure their way into Trump's orbit. There is a growing feeling among many that he may be the guy, so people are certainly seeing if they can find a home over there," he said. And one of the main voices of the GOPe -- Rupert Murdoch -- agrees:
Media mogul Rupert Murdoch believes Donald Trump's ability to appeal across party lines will lead to victory over Texas Sen. Ted Cruz... "Cruz bets uniting white conservatives/evangelicals enough, Meanwhile Trump appealing across party lines. Surely the winning strategy," Murdoch tweeted Friday night.
The National Review's Rich Lowry also chimes in:

As NBC News reported a couple of days ago:
In hypothetical one-on-one match-ups, Trump tops Rubio, 52%-45%, though he loses to Cruz, 51%-43%. And in a three-way race, it’s Trump 40%, Cruz 31%, and Rubio 26%. So the combined outsider/insurgent wing is at 71%, while the establishment wing is at 26%.
Which explains the meltdown Mr. Trump appears to be having on Twitter.
Does Ted Cruz have flaws? Sure. Can you name a human being who doesn't?
Trump attacked first, but not based upon policy differences, instead resorting to the patently idiotic truther-birther issue (right, the son of a female soldier born in Germany can't run for President?) and then claiming Cruz is owned by the banks (pretty funny coming from a guy who owes tens of billions, I'm guessing, to the banksters).
Look, fact is that not too long ago Trump supported an assault weapons ban and a woman's right to have her baby torn limb-from-limb at 40 weeks. He called it "New York values" back then.
By contrast, Cruz has been a staunch Constitutional originalist since his collegiate days.
Cruz has been, if nothing else, unwavering in his willingness to defend the Constitution.
But I can't exactly say with conviction the principles Mr. Trump stands for. What movement does he represent?
What kind of Supreme Court Justices he would name? Would a Trump court further eviscerate the Second Amendment, beyond all of the degradations we currently endure?
The net result is that the GOPe is going to work a deal with someone who is, no doubt, flexible. A dealmaker. A negotiator.
Which means the GOPe will back Trump, not Cruz. Vote accordingly.
It’s not about Cruz. Nobody besides the Cruz or Losers thinks Ted will win. It’s about them finally realizing Trump is going to win and trying to get on board while they can.
Paranoia has set in the Cruz camp.
Wait...are they trying to use Trump to stop Cruz, or Cruz to stop Trump? Every other article makes an alternating claim.
In 15 days at 7:00 pm CST the process begins with the caucus event in Iowa. A couple
of hours later one of the top two will be on tv telling us how he will win this race. The
other will be telling us not to pay attention to this corn state and look to states where
a larger cross section of the population will cast a vote.
Interesting times a coming.
Reverse psychology, Trump still scares them the most as they still control Cruz’s money sources and thus can hang him out to dry that way if he ‘causes too much trouble’. Trump will do whatever he pleases once in office.
Pieces like this won’t fool Trump voters.
Perhaps they have realized what a disaster nominating an ineligible candidate would be for the Republican party.

Trump didn’t float anything. Somebody, probably thinking they were cunningly setting a trap, suggested Brown by name. To which Trump politely replied that that was something to think about.
Lots of things are “something to think about”. We could think about Obunga renouncing his muslim allegiance, publicly repenting, giving his life to Christ, revoking all his EOs and starting testimony meetings in the White House; but don’t hold your breath. In either case.
He still seems a little sketchy on that 'eligibility section".

That difference has to do with the GOP. Trump and his supporters never lose sight of the fact that GOPe needs to be gone as perhaps the biggest priority for this country. Just crawl off into a corner and shrivel up and die the death they have deserved since they stabbed Contract with America in its back. Cruz's supporters still think they can make some sort of bargain with them or need to make some sort of bargain with them, or somehow can wrestle out the "social conservative" agenda with Cruz on top of GOPe.
You can't ride that beast. Don't give the scorpion another ride. Just stomp it into the dirt and fumigate its eggs and spawn.
I wouldn’t call it paranoia, but yeah, the Cruz camp senses it is toast.
Brown and Trump stood side by side at a stump speech yesterday. Maybe that sparked a hallucination in somebody’s mind.
Well, let it be what it will be. I said over a year ago to my co-workers, the GOP will flood the field with moderate/liberal republican candidates in an effort to drown out the conservatives. When I saw the number of liberal/moderate candidates, couldn't help but chuckle inside.
Then when Trump gets into the white house and begins his moderate to liberal march, I again will chuckle inside, thinking, what dumb @$$e$ the American electorate can be. So easily led down the path the Karl Roves of the world lay out.
God help America.
Like I said, nobody but the Cruz or Lose crowd thinks Cruz has a chance. Their motive has nothing to do with Cruz, and everything to do with being on the good side of a Trump administration now that they know they can’t stop him.
This level of deception by Cruz and his supporters needs to stop.
Here's the T-R-U-T-H about Scott Brown. Trump was speaking at his No BS BBQ yesterday, which several other candidates have already done, and more will in the future.
A young girl in the audience asked Trump if she could come up on stage and take a selfie with him. Scott Brown said, no. Probably because he was the host and maybe concerned with security. I don't know.
Then Trump overrode Brown and let the girl come up on stage and get her selfie. The audience booed Brown for not letting the girl come up on stage. While that was going on, Trump said, Well, if Scott were running for office, he would let her come up. Audience laughter.
Then Trump asked Brown if he was going to be running for office again.
Immediately someone from the audience yelled out, how about as your VP to Trump?
Then, Trump, because he has good manners, said something complimentary, like 'yeah, yeah, that would be a good idea' as opposed to saying to the audience member, are you kidding me? why would I ever consider this guy,thus insulting the host who was showing Trump his hospitality.
And this becomes Trump floating SCott Brown as his VP.
Desperate.
