The Republican establishment in Virginia doesnât even try to hide its fear and loathing of Donald Trump......
This is why the new Overtime poll results from a survey taken from January 3rd to the 5th is both encouraging for Trump and should be troubling for his only remaining rival, Texas Senator Ted Cruz.
While the poll shows the usual solid lead Trump has overallâin this case a 9 point advantage at 28% to 19%âthe headline doesnât provide the data that is most important.
The survey is a new restatement of the fact that Trump is doing very well â actually regularly above 25% â with African Americans. This poll shows that advantage continuing. It shows Trump gets 27% of the African American vote while Senator Cruz gets just 7%.
It another key indicator, while Trump gets just 11% of the Latino vote, Senator Cruz does surprisingly poorly among those he shares ethnicity with. Cruz gets only 4% support from Hispanics!
When the focus swings around to White voters Trump is ahead by a slim margin leading with 28% to 23% for Senator Cruz. This shows that while Cruz is not doing well with Hispanics; for whatever reason, he is not making the sale with the biggest voting bloc on the stage: White America.
Contrary to the propaganda and distortions about his appeal to women, however small Trumpâs numbers with women are (26%) he is still substantially ahead of Senator Cruz who is drawing 17% support from women.
To avoid run-on, statistical noise, it is easier to report the results this way: Trump wins big with men, and among the higher turnout voters age 60+; while Senator Cruz won just one category â those earning 10 to 25K (by just 25/23) and only broke 20% (21 with men) one other time.

Today, everything is about maybe saving the party, but definitely about saving the country.
Nothing is too big to fail, especially not a political party that plays its base.
If the GOPe/republican party hadn't been doing that since Reagan left the building, there would be no need for a Trump now!
That’s becoming more evident with each post.
So all the “moderate”, “Establishment” categories favor Trump. Hmmm...
Besides, it’s early yet, in terms of Virginia. (Not so much in terms of Iowa and New Hampshire.)
Objectively viewing Ted’s public speaking, there are some things viscerally disconcerting about his persona and delivery:
1. He constantly looks facially pained, as if he just ate a lemon. While it’s his ‘earnest and concerned’ look, it is very distracting.
2. His voice is annoyingly ‘tight’, in the manner of Bush 41, speaking from the back of his throat. It is not at all sonorous or pleasing to the ear.
3. His arm movements are stiff and robotic, which is off-putting and odd.
This won’t sell to the general public. Time for a makeover.
