DC Black Lives Matter Activists Demand ‘Defunding, Disorganizing, Dismantling the Police’

Black Lives Matter protesters held a rally Thursday night to protest the lack of indictment in the Tamir Rice and Sandra Bland cases. The rally of about 100 people blocked streets in DC's Chinatown area, which is only a few blocks east of the White House.

One protester told local CBS affiliate WUSA9, "I hope to interrupt enough people's New Years so they understand that this is serious. That Tamir Rice should have gotten justice. That Sandra Bland should have gotten justice."

Video of the rally uploaded to YouTube shows one protest organizer, identified as Marybeth Onyeukwu, saying the lack of an indictment in the death of Sandra Bland was proof there is no hope for justice under the current system:

We're talking about a system. The whole damn system is guilty as hell. There is no justice for us in this current system. So we're not just protesting we are demanding a new world. And a new world means, I want you all to hear me, a new world means defunding, disorganizing and dismantling the police. It means defunding, disorganizing and dismantling the police....

I hadn't seen the video before. Tamir was clearly an aspiring rapper rehearsing his moves for his upcoming breakout album. Why else would he have been repeatedly pointing a realistic looking gun at random passers-by? A brilliant career was cut short.

In any event, the police should have used their superior Jedi mind powers to ascertain his age and intent before reacting. Alternatively, I will repeat my suggestion that a criminal defense lawyer ride along with police patrols and be the first to approach armed suspects. The lawyers wouldn't have to chase ambulances if they were first at the scene, so they should consider this an investment in client acquisition, and do it for free.

And this 5'7" 13-year-old kid, according to the autopsy report, weighed 195 lbs!

On another note: I find it odd (NOT) that BLM rallied in Chinatown, a target rich commercial district (Gallery Place, the Verizon Center, nightlife), and NOT in their own neighborhoods, for the abolition of police.

I wonder if the merchants, restaurateurs, and the young couples and young families attracted to the area think this would be a good idea. And I wonder (NOT) that the reporter didn't bother to ask any of them.

Why not just have the police not patrol black neighborhoods and not respond to ANY crimes involving blacks ANYWHERE? And if the cops show up to a crime scene and find blacks there that weren’t reported they just turn around and head back to the precinct?

This will show just how well black people can govern themselves.
