Maybe the liberal interviewing Obama (it sounds like I'm taking that for granted, the quote originated from an NPR interview, so...) had the his critical thinking switch slide off because it was located on the smooth part of his brain known as his brain, but any half-brained dim wit couldn't read that quote without taking away from it that this was THE reason Obama ran for president in the first place.
To be sure, anyone who wants to run for president must suffer a great degree of hubris. So the trappings Obama describes are not entirely unfeasible.
The flip side of that is the one where candidates truly feel called to run because others believe in them and Washington DC should be a place where selfless people serve. Those candidates are probably a little more rare than unicorns, and even then their motivation wouldn't be 100% pure as there would undoubtedly be a little bit of hubris mixed in. That would be ok if it wasn't like an ice cream sundae with whipped cream, a cherry on top, and manure sprinkles.
In any case, Obama can't have an interview where he is 100% honest, that might tear the space-time continuum, so to maintain cosmic balance here's where he tells his obligatory whopper, emphasis in bold is mine...
What sustains me, what lasts, what makes me happy, proud, frustrated sometimes, is the recognition that if you want this job, then you really need to love this country and have a very clear vision and idea of what it is that you want to do to help make this country work even better.Then this was his reaction when someone told him to say that again with a straight face...
You don't love what you want to "fundamentally transform". What's more, if you want to govern a country you love you should at least have the decency to uphold the oath of office you take to do the job faithfully and in a constitutional manner instead of viewing yourself like this...
And then conducting your administration accordingly.
No, Obama is full of s**t, but that's ancient information at this point.
