1932: The Lightweights Who Would be Heavy

Over a year ago, I went looking for a book--any book--on the 1932 presidential election. In case you haven't noticed, I'm a bit of sucker for books about presidential elections. (Imagine my dilemma: I despise Karl Rove, yet he's got new book out about the 1896 election!) I couldn't find anything other than something that looked rather amateurish and plenty of court history about the New Deal. I wanted something that dealt in detail with the campaign, especially FDR's messaging.

Not having found anything good, imagine my joy when I saw that my favorite campaign historian, David Pietrusza had a book on 1932 coming out in August 2015! Then imagine my sadness when the release date got pushed back to October. It's the worst thing to ever happen to anyone. Finally, however, the release date arrived and I hit the 1 Click button on my Amazon account and immediately start perusing the table of contents (Am I the only one who does this?).

Fabulous book, the best yet written by noted presidential historian David Pietrusza, and that’s saying a lot!

I heard some guy talking about McKinley and a book he’d written ANC it was interesting. To my surprise, and chagrin as well, it was Karl Rove.

He should quit politics and write popular history.

Same with Michael Medved. I like the histories he does, but politically he is lost. Tone deaf, naive or worse.

I hear Rove’s book draws correlations to today, and didn’t Newt write one about Jackson. He says both Jackson and Teddy R were alike like Trump in their day.
