The never ending debate of which is better for every day carry and personal protection continues. Here are some folks had to say from Glocks and 1911 forums:
Vintage68: I don't think anyone would say the Glock is a bad pistol because it's not. They're incredibly reliable, if ugly, tools. I think most people, at least on a 1911 forum, will say that that the feel of a 1911 in the hand and the trigger will beat the snot out of a Glock any day of the week.
McMagic: 1911 is a much nicer platform. Glocks are notoriously hard to get sighted in correctly due to the lack of a true iron sight, and instead just the dots on the slide. Try shooting both at your local gun club/range, I would be willing to bet you prefer the 1911.
ripdog28: Consistent training with both. I can now grab the Glock and with eyes closed, come to a Natural Point of Aim. Sights dead on. But that's also thousands of draws from different positions. Can do the same with a 1911. Think based on the grip feel, I recognize it and based on muscle memory of the grip, the NPA is easy to differentiate between. You can view the rest of the debate here and what's your take on this?
I always liked the Sig P250 Compact in 9mm or 40mm.
I am jealous of your AR-15.
I would like to see one of those under my Christmas tree!
I’m comfortable with either. But I will say that if I had to bet my life on a brand-new, never-been-out-of-the-box-yet, unfired pistol — just load a magazine and go — I’m taking the Glock. Opinions will vary.
The first thing I do with any new Glock is install the light disconnect, firing pin spring and extended release lever.
Almost thirty years and never had a ND.
Swiss and German designs for me: Sig Sauer and Heckler & Koch.
Few of the Glock fan boys have ever heard of the 1911.
>>Perhaps thatâs the âGangstaâ version...
LOL. I think the author of that “dots on the slide” comment was just the “idiot” version. ;-)
>>Iâve got no problem drawing safely, but a lot of people do.Including cops.
Not a lot. Just a very stupid few. The problem is also with holstering the weapon with finger in the trigger guard. Still a software problem and not hardware.
You’d be surprised the number of people whose fingers go right on the trigger when they pick up any gun.
Trigger Discipline Matters!

That’s what I always say. There are prettier handguns. There are guns hand that shoot 1/4” groups at 25 yards. There are cheaper guns. There are more expensive guns.
But, if I had to grab one gun that is NIB or has been sitting unused for 20 years and use it in a gunfight right now, I would only trust a Glock 9mm or 40.

Is that just ignorance speaking or are you just trying to be insulting?
I’ve owned 6 Glocks and 6 1911s over the years. I love my 1911 as a range gun. But I carry a Glock for protection.
Almost every Glock owner I know owns a 1911 (or two or three). The ones who don’t own a 1911 are usually LEOs who are aren’t “gun guys” and the Glock is department issue.
Just insulting as the Glock weenies making disparaging remarks about any platform that is’nt striker fired.
As long as its quality made and DA/SA with a hammer. I personally HATE DAO.
Fine, more SIGs for the rest of us.
>>Just insulting as the Glock weenies making disparaging remarks about any platform that isânt striker fired.
So if we don’t like the TYPE of GUN you like, then you break out the weenie and fan boy personal insults? LOL. Its sad that Glocks live rent-free inside your head like that.
My preference is DA/SA, but I wouldn’t go so far as to say I hate DAO or striker fired designs.
>>My preference is DA/SA, but I wouldnât go so far as to say I hate DAO or striker fired designs.
I like striker-fired (as long as it is Glock—hate all the other striker-fired guns). I like an SA for the range. I’m one of those rare types who prefers a DAO over everything in a concealed carry gun.
The one type of semi-auto I really can’t stand is DA/SA. Just a personal preference.
HAHAHAHAHA! Oh, that's a good one.
It's therefore not possible for me to hit an 8" steel gong at 50 yards two out of three times with a Glock 19 with Ameriglo Red Fiber Optic sights. Because, you know, it would be too hard to get that sighted in. And it's not a true iron sight.
Good grief, people. Just pick a handgun you like and learn how to shoot it, and practice regularly.
Handgun Holy War! Hooyah! Been weeks since we’ve had one of those. BTT
Have both. Love both.
My Dad’s old 1950’s era 1911 is sweet to shoot, and a joy to look at, but if I ever ‘need’ to use one, it’ll be either Glock or Ruger.
Would have loved a baby 1911 9mm, but rumor has it the Kimber Solo is a bit of a pricey letdown.
Surprisingly, I have a friend who’s uncle is a retired cop, he let us shoot his service S&W DAO 40 cal. It was interesting. Not my cup of tea, but I can definitely understand why he would want to keep that in his holsters.
Everything has its purpose, no need to go all fanboi over any of it.
Personally, I’ll be excited to see the new Ruger 10 round 22lr revolvers hit the stores sometime soon. Heresy!
