House GOP Leadership: Foreign Worker Increase Needed Because of âLabor Shortageâ by MARK KRIKORIAN December 17, 2015
House GOP Whip Steve Scalise sent an e-mail to his members this morning defending the immigration increase that the Republican leadership had secretly slipped into the omnibus funding bill. (It is shown below.) The provision would potentially quadruple the issuance of H-2B worker visas, which are for non-agricultural seasonal jobs. The visas are used to import cheap labor for ski resorts, hotels, factories, landscapers, and others. (See this 2010 paper on this racket by a former State department visa officer.) Most of the e-mail is the usual lobbyist-written baloney, but it takes an especially clumsy (or shameless) lobbyist to try to justify this captive-worker program by citing âthe current and projected H2B worker shortageâ. Worker shortage? To get a sense of how ridiculous that is, just one number: In the second quarter of this year there were 6.5 million people working part-time who said they wanted full-time work but couldnât find it.

Time to primary each one of these dirty GOP bastards!
Liars all.
They care NOT about our own uneducated or poorly educated who need and qualify for these low level jobs.
Folks, the next time someone...a group of someones in fact, tells you, and shown you factual proof the the GOP is fully liberal and just as evil as any democrat...
LISTEN.
DON’T LISTEN to the liberal garbage here telling you to keep electing them. Because they talked you into helping to bring this on us all.
There is no such thing as voting against. Only FOR (Thank you for you clarity Finny.)
If you vote for liberals, you get liberalism. The GOP is LIBERAL.
And for those that don’t like hearing it, save yourself they typing. I do not care. It’s the truth.
WE out these people in office. Not Democrats. The responsibility is OURS.
edit - We PUT
You’re right.
If you walked into a restaurant, ordered a meal, got kicked in the gnads instead of served, then demanded you pay... would you?
If you’re paying taxes, then you would.
Ban them from the Republican convention. Starting with Paul Ryan he must be banned.
“House GOP Leadership:”?
Liars, Thieves, UnAmerican scum.
GOP is little more than dem lite and a bunch of worthless scum.
Yo, Senore’Ryan, up yours fella.
Yo GOP, eat pooh and die.
The people you talk about do not ever show up and even apply....they live with mama or on the government dole. The skilled worker issue is one thing, but this unskilled labor is quite another. Is a truly great country one where it's own citizens do the very low end of the totem pole work? I'm not so sure it is. Again, quite a different issue from higher skilled jobs and workers....
Correction: There is a CHEAP labor shortage.
after watching what is happening on college campuses I suggest we trade the students for qualified job seekers...Hurray for H1b!!!!!!!!
Those people would work the jobs if they weren’t paid so well to sit on their duffs, and the law of supply & demand would arrive at a real wage. They won’t get $15 per hour, but they’d get more than the immigrants take for it. We’d also fix our schools, since industry has no use for a swelling illiterate underclass.
FWIW, over the past decades more & more skilled workers are being replaced by skilled immigrants - and not just in tech.
You would think any legislation that expands the number of US visas issued would be given a lot more scrutiny in light of the recent failure to fully vet female terrorist Tashfeen Malik.
Big business will be the death of us all.
This is true, at least to some extent. It's the government and welfare that's distorting the supply/demand curve - the immigrant work force is merely a reaction to that and a porous southern border- and of course the border is another government problem. This is a government caused problem, not a business caused problem.
But we still need to get consistent: does a great country provide ALL it's own low skilled labor? I don't think so. Should our immigration policies target the low skilled or the skilled labor markets? I think the answer is obvious.
Don’t forget about the Prez candidates who are being funded by pro-amnesty sugar daddies.
Robert Mercer is a BIG pro-amnesty donor and #1 funder of Cruz.
That should help clarify who and why is pulling the puppet strings of Cruz and his support for huge increases in H1B and his mushy pathway amnesty.
Until civilized populations started declining, they always provided the full spectrum of labor (from skilled through unskilled); we didn’t import Mexicans to pump gas or work on garbage trucks sixty years ago (and Europe didn’t either). Our current immigration policy is to simply inundate this country with people from anywhere in the world in an attempt to create a rival for two Asian giants with over a billion people each; it is obvious that “work” isn’t even factored into the equation; these people are needed as consumers (of housing, public education, Wal-Mart goods), not workers (we already have very high unemployment). Nancy Pelosi made it very clear that a government check was as good as a paycheck; we’re the ones funding those “government checks”.
I don’t accept your premise. It was not declining that caused it (only around the margins) - it was progress.....compared with other populations.
If you want to pick the vegetables and mow the grass and make the beds at Motel 6, knock yourself out. I don’t want to, don’t know anyone who wants to, and yet I want vegetables and grass and hotels and motels to be available.
Again, we need to focus on the higher end skill jobs....and not conflate the two issues.
In the past, when Americans had children, many would learn the value of work, and save up some money, working those jobs you feel should be done by imported immigrants. Understand, very few adults can work those jobs without a LOT of public assistance attached to it. If they don’t get $15 per hour, you and I are making up the difference in food stamps and such. On top of that, Hispanics are targeted beneficiaries of affirmative action; they will be admitted to colleges, hired for jobs, and protected from discrimination much more that we will.
When Indian doctors and programmers, and nurses from Nigeria and the Philippines, are all trafficked here as well, do you feel those are the jobs we should be protecting?
Wright you're a big prick but do you have to prove it every day?
