Any Trump Attacks on Cruz Probably Aren't Going to Work Like They Did with Others
Reaganite Republican ^ | 14 December 2015 | Reaganite Republican

Posted on 12/14/2015 5:03:58 AM PST by Reaganite Republican

After breezily dispatching (Walker, Perry) and/or permanently crippling
(Bush, Rand Paul) a number of weaker GOP challengers who dared to get-up-in-his-grill, Donald Trump is now making noises about going after Ted Cruz... but if he does, this time it's likely to be different.

First off, he looks like a disingenuous hypocrite to attack Ted Cruz after allying himself with him so closely to this point, saying nice things repeatedly, and claiming they think almost identically. He's clearly taking a huge risk in alienating the Republican base.

Trump has claimed he's only going to get into tangles with Cruz 'if he comes after me first', but with the media egging him on now daily The Donald seems to be attempting to stoke some open friction. This really does make him look like the politician he always claims not to be... Trump's all but said himself he has no reason to attack Cruz but for personal political gain-- how deeply cynical to not even hide it.

Truth is, Cruz's base of support consists of Evangelicals unlikely to be charmed into voting for Trump... as well as many voters like myself who agree with a lot of what Trump says -and think he's done the process a lot of good- but long ago decided Cruz was a better presidential candidate, one with a still-more-conservative platform. I'm not a Trump 'hater' at all, but there is nothing he could possibly say or do that would have me taking him over Ted Cruz in the primary.

For all the talk about how loyal Trump voters are, the support Ted Cruz has earned to this point has him out-front by ten points in Iowa now... and all of those people have already had a long, hard look at Donald Trump.

When Trump attacked those with fragile support, it was an entirely different situation that he faces in going after Ted Cruz... I'd say he's even going to have a hard time coming up with material/dirt on Senator Cruz -without sounding like Mitch McConnell- the guy is clean as a whistle and a true Reaganite... not much to pick apart there, nothing any conservatives would give a hoot about, anyway.

On top of that, Cruz probably won't take the bait, either...

That’s funny, Trump is hardly cozying up to the establishment. You have to spin pretty hard you must be dizzy.

One poll, one state. Carson did well at one time too. Cruz is only getting Carson supporters, he’s not making any inroads into Trump’s.

And you are so wrong on the time frame, so wrong it could be considered a lie.

Trump’s interview was SUNDAY. it is Monday morning. was a poll taken in the middle of the night?

Your crystal ball knows how the House and Senate elections will go?

I don’t see Trump pandering to anybody right now and now is the time politicians pander to get money and votes. Read his books, he knows how to work with people to get what HE wants. And he gets it, time and again. From a position of strength.

"They hate Trump."

Poor The Donald. The whinging victim routine from his supporters is tiresome, but you've almost succeeded in convincing me of his delicate flower nature. Maybe everybody really is mean to him!

Yes, it’s incredibly stupid to suggest Cruz wanted this now.
Would love to know which GOPe ‘prospective donor’ at the meeting stabbed him in the back with the recording but no one will ever look into it.

Trump’s comments did prove Cruz’s comment was 100% accurate.

Who wants a president with his finger on the nuke button calling other world leaders with their finger on the nuke button maniacs that are attacking him.

Trump is beholding to every public official, mostly democrat, whose palm he’s greased to get something done.

Some of those people might be granted immunity from prosecution for testifying against Trump for bribing a public official which is a felony.

Let me guess, that little possibility went right over your head didn’t it.

“Poor The Donald. The whinging victim routine from his supporters....”

Seriously? That was your response?

Ok then, go right ahead and puff your chests out with that Cruz supporter level of righghteousness. Just when the GOPEs turn on you, don’t come bitching to FR about how “everyone is afraid of Ted, and that’s why they are going after him” speech.

You’ve been warned. Just don’t play dumb when it happens.

“Trump is beholding to every public official, mostly democrat, whose palm he’s greased to get something done”

That actually works the other way around.

“That actually works the other way around.’

How?

Do you really think a lowly building inspector making claims he had been paid off to overlook problems in a Trump building is a bigger target than Trump?

What he did was ok, that he got caught is the problem?

You nailed it - Cruz was caught on tape wanting to win the nomination. So it is true - he really DOES think he's the best candidate running.

The nerve!

Since Trump is so predictable about attacking opponents and others that say something he doesn't like about him, he is vulnerable to being deliberately setup to take some bait.

He should know better that to be that predictable.

He should beat Cruz on ideas, vision and the fact that Trump will get things done. Cruz is a true believer and has done almost as much good as Trump at showing the GOP hypocrisy and being good at putting forth a good strong agenda. He almost always backs Trump when he stirs up things.

My point....LAY off CRUZ, Carson and Christie,,,,and never touch his religion!!!

He was caught attacking other candidates. Which is fine except he has been pretending to be above that and pretended he didn’t say it when questioned.

Too late. Its becoming a cult.

Everyone needs to put aside the whole horse race thing and focus on where we want this country to go.

The GOPe already hates Cruz, I don’t whine about it, I celebrate it! I hope they bring everything they got, to temper Cruz for his coming fight against Hillary.

Trump has wisely positioned himself far to the right of Cruz on immigration.

Cruz is I believe the 4th largest recipient of wallstreet money of any of the candidates and he is vulnerable on his recent votes for TPA cloture and the Corker Bill.

But look for Trump to go after Cruz like he did with Chris Wallace yesterday. Its his temperment and he can’t get along with others. Which is somewhat true. Cruz is loathed in the Senate. Mitch McConnell would not walk across the street to shoot Cruz much less follow his agenda.

Last but not least electability. Cruz would be hard pressed to beat Hillary in a general election. He will get on a stage and try to debate her. She’s an attorney she will slip and slide herself right past Cruz and into the Whitehouse.

So far Trump has thrown a couple of half hearted jabs Cruz’s way and he said at his town hall on Sat that he thought Scalia was a good Supreme Court Justice. So he disagrees with Scalia on an issue. So what?

Watch the debate this week and see what kind signals Trump sends as to how he is going to deal with Cruz. They will be standing side by side. I predict that Trump continues with his winning meme that Cruz agrees 100% with him its just that he has to mention everything first and then Cruz comes along.

A: yes he has, now. 2 years ago? Not so much. B: I didn't mention anything negative about Trump on immigration for just that reason. C: you still should read before you spout off.

Your articles would be OK if you could just take the whine out of it. Trump beating up on Cruz. Give me a break. Its American politics. So far its been better than most years. Not worse not even brutal. Except for the horrific ongoing attacks on Trump.

Wait a few weeks til after Jan 1st then you will really have something to whine about. At that point it will likely go full contact. If Cruz can’t take the heat from Trump how is he going to handle Killary or the third world thugs? Frankly I don’t hear Cruz whining at all.

Chuckle!
Trump is using exactly the same words the GOPe use to attack Ted Cruz. Trump is in effect backing Mitch McConnell and John Boehner against Ted Cruz. This pro GOPe attack from the left by Trump is just going to make Ted Cruz stronger with the Republican base. Donald Trump is more liberal than Romney ever was. Trump is the text book definition and poster child for RINO’s.

once again, you insist on popping off about what you did not read. There is no way any one with an IQ of over 50 thinks I whined. They may disagree for any number of other reasons, but the whine thing is a low intellect ignorant spout.

Please cut and paste any sentence or paragraph you think was a whine. Or, politely STFU!!!!!
