GOP preparing for war
Currently, Donald Trump dominates the Republican field in virtually every single poll. In most, heâs enjoying a double-digit lead over his nearest competitor. If that data holds, one would assume Trump will glide to an easy primary victory. Whether or not heâd win the general is a separate, easily debatable, question - but thereâs little doubt that it currently appears that heâs headed for the nomination.
...And the mainstream wing of the GOP is less than pleased.
According to the Washington Post, the GOP elite are currently hosting high level meetings to discuss the idea of a floor fight that would usurp Trump and select a more party-friendly candidate.
“The days of the smoke filled rooms were a select few horse traded delegates ended about 100 years ago.”
Just today duing the drive home I heard ABC radio news mention the likelihood of a brokered Republican convention because “there is no clear front runner”.
No one is going to have a majority so there is no alternative to a brokered convention.
................................................
Not so sure!
Well, there was that June 5 event in 1968 that sort of cast a pall over the Democratic primaries. Had to make some changes in the program, you know.
I think that he really said that if the GOPe treats him unfairly, Then he’s running third party. Sounds like that will happen, and that will kill the RINO party. I say git’r done!
I wonder what effect about 30,000,000 of committing to voting for Trump either as the Republican nominee, or as a third party candidate, or as a write in would have on their thinking? Committing to voting for him dead or alive.
Win or lose, can you imagine the king maker Trump will be in the future? He would just need to show up in Wisconsin and say “Ryan sucks!” I’m endorsing his opponent...whoever that might be.
I think you’d see HUGE turnouts in the primaries overthrowing his enemies.
A brokered convention, viewed through smeared glasses read:
A hookered convention
And I thought, yeah, about right for Repubs the way they are going.

I don’t see the GOP surviving much past the next election anyway. A brokered convention would just hasten the inevitable.
Totally different era and circumstances.
Humphrey WAS an announced candidate and DID win a number of caucuses. He had the most delegates going into the convention.
However, it was RFK's assassination that really changed everything. RFK had the second most delegates and all of them were unpledged going into the convention.
Carson: I may go independent if GOP plans for brokered convention
The retired neurosurgeon lashed out Friday morning at reports of a recent closed-door meeting of Republican establishment leaders focused on deep divisions within the GOP electorate, particularly the continued strength of billionaire businessman Donald Trump. The Washington Post reported that the group, including Republican National Committee chairman Reince Priebus and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, discussed the possibility of a "brokered national convention" if there isn't a clear winner in the party's months long primary election season.
"If this was the beginning of a plan to subvert the will of the voters and replace it with the will of the political elite, I assure you Donald Trump will not be the only one leaving the party," Carson said in a statement that referenced Trump's repeated threats to leave the GOP if treated "unfairly."
"I pray that the report in the Post this morning was incorrect," Carson added. "If it is correct, every voter who is standing for change must know they are being betrayed. I won't stand for it."

“A brokered convention to undo Trump would destroy the GOP”
Good
Prepare to hear the following out of the GOPe:
"Honestly, how bad could a Hillary administration be?"
Everyone keeps saying it will destroy the party, but Cochran won with over 60% of the vote. I didn’t see the break down, but that suggests a lot of the Republican voters the GOPe silenced, voted for Cochran anyway. Why shouldn’t we expect this on a national level? Mississippi showed them they can do it.
The party will not thrive, regardless of outcome. GOPe has showed its ugly butt for what it is and Republican-leaning voters aren't going to fall for it anymore.
The Neo-Whig Party has been Trumped!
And Harding turned out to be a fairly good president despite the bum rap he gets in the history books.
Just today duing the drive home I heard ABC radio news mention the likelihood of a brokered Republican convention because âthere is no clear front runnerâ.
I am Cruz supporter. I am also under absolutely no delusions that anyone but Trump is the clear front runner and has been since he launched his campaign. Does Cruz have a shot? Yes, but he has a whole lot of ground to make up.
It is, essentially, a three man race. Trump, Cruz and Rubio. Trump is the solid favorite to go all the way. The narrative and focus of the race would have to change quite a bit for Cruz to be competitive but it is politics and the political landscape can change quickly. I don’t see Rubio as competitive. He is the John Edwards in this race. He will garner some support but not nearly enough to match Trump or Cruz.
I think we will have an answer after South Carolina. Either Cruz wins Iowa and South Carolina because the political winds have blown his way or Trump takes it all.
The media trying to spin that there is no clear front runner is absurd. Trump has one competitor and he remains far behind in his rearview mirror.
That's the way I see it. I also believe that that they will try to get cutesy.
