Brian Washington:
"Interestingly, they almost played Woodstock. When Michael Lang was negotiating with Bill Graham to get the Grateful Dead for the festival Graham told Lang he could have the Dead if he took one of two newer acts he managed. At first Lang refused, but Graham insisted and gave Lang a tape of both acts and he was so blown away by both that he couldn't decide so he flipped a coin and IABD lost. The winning act turned out to be Santana, who wound up becoming stars due to their appearance in the festival as well as the film."
