Letâs take a little break from poop swastikas and other campus micro/macro aggressions to examine a real conflict from abroad. France has finally found something in the clash of cultures to take a stand onâ¦wine.
Ahead of Iranian President Hassan Rouhaniâs landmark European trip kicking off this weekend, French officials reportedly nixed plans for a formal meal in Paris with President François Hollande following a dispute over the menu. The Iranians, according to Franceâs RTL Radio, insisted on a wine-free meal with halal meat â a request based on Islamic codes that amounted to culinary sacrilege in France, a nation that puts the secular ideals of the Republic above all else. - Independent UK
Good to know: even the cheese eating surrender monkeys can be pushed to far. Rapes, honor killings, crucifixions of Christians, head choppings of infidels and tossing gays off the top of buildings werenât adequately offensive. Butt mess with their food and wine and Sacré Bleu!
But France is also in the grips of a domestic culture war, with its right wing raising alarms over âIslamificationâ that has spilled into its deep national relationship with food. The far-right National Front, for instance, has railed against the rise of kebab stands in the country of quiche.
And with good reason, as my research clearly demonstrates:
Islamic State commander Abu Wahib's jihad garb has been compared to a giant kebab â which I presume is to help him blend into the Paris landscape.
So everyone can take a deep breath, the French are here to save the day. Never, ever, never underestimate the French, especially if someone tries to get between them and their cheese and wine. They are quite capable of taking care of business when pressed to the wall.
