If you were among those voters excited about Paul Ryanâs ascension to the House throne, heâs out there now trying to convince you to lower your expectations. Especially if youâre the kind of conservative who doesnât want his tax dollars going to fund an abortion mill.
âI think we need to be very clear about what we can and cannot achieve and not set expectations that we know we canât reach given the constraints of the Constitution,â Ryan said in an interview on CNNâs Sunday show, âState of the Union.â
Right, because thereâs no way around that damn constitutional right to abortion, eh?
This is unacceptable coming from any Republican, much less the man leading Congress. You donât hear the Democrats saying things like this, do you? Where are all the media types who call Obama divisive and obstructionist? Where are the people talking about the liberal wing of the Democratic Party and how theyâre all out to lunch? You donât hear it, because this is a narrative that has been wholly invented by the liberal media. And itâs been picked up by half the damn politicians with an R next to their name. They never get outside the Washington bubble long enough to understand that theyâve been warped by the atmosphere.
âI donât think Planned Parenthood should get a red cent from the taxpayer. Iâve always believed that, even before these disgusting videos came out,â Ryan said. âBut I believe we need to do our oversight. Weâre just beginning to start a committee to investigate Planned Parenthood. Thatâs important. So the special committee on Planned Parenthood, I think, should be in the driverâs seat overseeing this process.â
Yeah, those special committees have been damn effective when it comes to getting conservative issues pushed into legislation, havenât they? Might as well start talking about Planned Parenthoodâs poll numbers, since that appears to be the only way these committees actually make a difference.
Itâs disturbing that our new House speaker doesnât consider abortion to be as important as it is. This is a defining issue of our times, and Paul Ryan should be willing to stake his career on it. There is no excuse for this kind of, well, you know, weâd really like toâ¦but what can we do? What can you do? You can do everything in your power to make sure this terrible company never gets another dime, thatâs what you can do. Why are we conceding this battle before it ever gets rolling?
âI think being an effective opposition party means being honest with people upfront about what it is we can and cannot achieve,â he said.
So Ryan believes that effectiveness means admitting defeat?
But see, this is what happens when the media is telling you around the clock that Americans want an end to gridlock and partisan politics. Where is the evidence of that? Why are we falling for this fairy tale that says itâs so awful for the two parties to disagree? Why are we more willing to fund the deaths of a million unborn babies a year than we are to shut down the federal government for a couple of weeks? What kind of twisted morality brings us to this point?
This is a dangerous time for our country, and we need leaders in Washington who understand the precipice that America is clinging to. We canât win our country back if weâre playing by the Democrat narrative. It should have been a glaring red warning sign to see that Democrats in the Senate were as excited about Ryan as the Republicans.
Of course he does, capitulation to the enemy has become the standing policy of almost every Repub who holds a government office.
That's the way it's been throughout my 67 years as a registered Republican except for the 8 years in which Reagan confounded his Democrat opponents by simply doing what he was elected to do. However, at my age I don't expect anything to change for the better in my lifetime, or in my grandkids' lifetimes for that matter.
When I was a kid and things didn't go my way, Dad used to tell me "He that expecteth nothing good is seldom disappointed". That may be true, but the old adage that says "hope springs eternal" is also true.
I imagine the traitorous dog has disconnected his email server as he can’t stand all the (justifiable) hate messages.
“No surprise from Ryno move along suckers nothing to see.”
well said - I think! (will check the dictionary later)
