The dictionary defines one of the older lessons in science that of cause and effect this way. Cause and effect is noting a relationship between actions or events such that one or more are the result of the other or others. In todays political world you could call this the Obama Effect. In which the far-left actions of President Obama are causing events inside the Republican Party, the result of those far-left actions pulling the GOP into a leftward lurching orbit. In the real world, the Earth orbits the Sun. The reason is basic science: lighter objects orbit heavier ones. The Sun is, according to NASA, 300,000 times heavier than planet Earth, but only 1,000 times heavier than Jupiter because the mass of the latter is that much larger than the mass of Earth or any other planet. The same principle holds true for the Sun and all the other planets in the solar system, varying, of course, with the size and mass of each planet. The reason satellites and space ships can orbit the Earth is because they are lighter than the Earth. The same principle can be found in the American political system. The President of the United States any president generally and usually has more political gravity than any one member of the House or Senate or any governor or military leader. If the president in question a Lincoln, FDR, JFK or Reagan has developed a considerable political gravitational force of his own which is added to the institutional gravity of the presidency, the net effect is to pull the country in his direction politically, thereby causing the opposition party to act as Earth acts towards the Sun. In todays political world this means

BLACKMAIL......Justice Roberts also.
I did not see that this was actually posted in December 2014...my bad! Please forgive. But some things are still relevant today.
When the president is to the right the needle doesn’t move much because of the media. Of course we haven’t had a right of center president since the 80s.
Now we have a Preezy.
Gives obama more credit than he deserves. The GOPe have been doing this for decades. It is they who are starting to awaken.
“The Obama Effect Pulls GOP Left”
He didn’t have to pull hard...it was a short trip!
some of those RINOs are already so far left they had to move to the right.
It does not matter, the establishment is just pretend fighting.
The budget deal is done. They are ALLOWING faux outrage to simulate a fight.
Really?
It isn’t a pull leftward. It is simply revealing the intended drift.
A comment I almost made in support of the article was this: Until Obama got the SC to take up gay marriage, the republicans were mostly on the same page, with only a few stragglers who sided with the left. After the SC took up the case about 80 republicans rushed to side with Obama on the issue, which was so aggravating that I could hardly stand it. So, yes, I do think that Obama has brought a lot of reluctant republicans to out themselves and join his party’s caucus to vote against the American people, against the party they ran in, etc. We should’ve primaried every single one of them. If the republican party, especially the conservatives, really wanted to, they COULD primary every leftist in the party. We really need to do it so the leftists LEAVE the party. They become republicans because they know republicans win in their areas, but we should force them out. Many are waking up, however late it is. Unfortunately, most of the emphasis is on the WH debates and not the local politics. We will wind up with a lot of new people who have not been vetted for their real stand on issues. I just wrote my own US Rep a rather heated letter, telling him that if I was not so new to the area I’d consider running against him out in the primaries.
