Jake Brewer, RIP [husband of Mary Katharine Ham]
HotAir.com ^ | 9/20/2015 | Ed Morrissey

Posted on 09/20/2015 12:40:01 PM PDT by iowamark

It is with great shock and sadness that we offer our condolences and prayers to the family of Jake Brewer, the husband of Mary Katharine Ham, and the father of Georgia and a child on the way, as well as his colleagues and friends at the White House and Change.org. Jake died as a result of an accident while participating in the Ride to Conquer Cancer bicycle rally and fundraiser. He gave his life while trying to help others, a quality that Jake’s friends say is defining about him. Jake passed away yesterday at 34 years of age.

Mary Katharine published this statement on Instagram, along with a picture of their growing family:

We lost our Jake yesterday, and I lost part of my heart and the father of my sweet babies. I don't have to tell most of you how wonderful he was. It was self-evident. His life was his testimony, and it was powerful and tender and fierce, with an ever-present twinkle in the eye. I will miss him forever, even more than I can know right now. No arms can be her father's, but my daughter is surrounded by her very favorite people and all the hugs she could imagine. This will change us, but with prayer and love and the strength that is their companion, we can hope our heartache is not in vain-- that it will change us and the world in beautiful ways, just as he did. If that sounds too optimistic at this time, it's because it is. But there was no thought too optimistic for Jake, so take it and run with it. I will strive and pray not to feel I was cheated of many years with him, but cherish the gift of the years I had. In a life where nothing is guaranteed, Jake made the absolute, ever-lovin' most of his time with all of us. This is a family picture we took a couple weeks ago. It was taken because Jake, as always, was ready with a camera and his immense talent. All four members of our little, growing family are in it. I can never be without him because these babies are half him. They are made of some of the strongest, kindest stuff God had to offer this world. Please pray that he can see us and we'll all make him proud. God, I love him. Psalm 34:18, Philippians 1:3.

Nothing we can add would be adequate to the profound loss and sorrow which Mary Katharine, their families and their friends are suffering at the moment. Our thoughts and prayers are with all of them, and we’d ask our readers to join us. Later, we’ll ask a friend to give us a more complete recognition of Jake’s life, but we do not wish to unnecessarily disturb them during this time of shock and mourning.

God our Father,
Your power brings us to birth,
Your providence guides our lives,
and by Your command we return to dust.

Lord, those who die still live in Your presence,
their lives change but do not end.
I pray in hope for my family,
relatives and friends,
and for all the dead known to You alone.

In company with Christ,
Who died and now lives,
may they rejoice in Your kingdom,
where all our tears are wiped away.
Unite us together again in one family,
to sing Your praise forever and ever.

Amen.

As a public matter, MKH, it turns out, is a total fraud for not disclosing her marriage to a lunatic Obama sycophant. (Read his recent Twitter on the teen Muslim “clock maker”). She had a duty to disclose her husband’s employment because it was diametrically opposed to her raison d’etre as a “conservative” commentator.

As a private matter, the death of her husband is sad, tragic and unfortunate.

These people operate within a political universe. The neighborhoods they live in, the restaurants they eat at, bars they drink at, fitness clubs where they work out ... are limited. They often attend the same meetings and conferences.

In this case, MKH might have been covering a subject that he was holding a meeting on, they talk further, there’s a chemistry, one things leads to another. Does not mean either converted the other to his/her political beliefs. Certainly the prototype for this type relationship is Matalin/Carville. You simply cannot live and work in DC and not engage with others from the other side of the spectrum.

Does that make them any less committed to what’s important to them?

If that's the initial condition at the outset, and not a change-horses-in-the-middle-of-the stream, yes. Of course. One or both will compromise their standards, and lose their credibility. Usually its the "conservative" that abandons his/her integrity. Permanently. Liberals have none, IMHO.

Why?

You need to read the rest of Ahmed’s story, before settling on him as a victim.

Not necessarily but on a practical level DC is a very small, insular community similar to Wall Street or Hollywood....all are acutely aware that they are part of a show and have a role to play.

It’s not my place or intention to denigrate that with which I’m not familiar but given the stridency of a site like HotAir and, without a doubt, the current White House I can’t help but feel that there was some play-acting involved given the ideological gulf between partners.

If your question in earnest I would say: $$$ and the prospect of achieving elevated social status in a particular market, geography etc.

now, now, now just because she married a lib does not mean she is a fraud. Look at Alan Greenspan and Andrea Mitchell. Personally if I were Alan Greenspan I would of choked her to death but, no one can question the sincerity of alan Greenspan's views(or hers for that matter).

25 years in DC, a lot of it spent in political circles, and I tend to disagee with you.

It used to be the way you describe. The change point came with the Clinton crowd. They brought in with them a real attitude that you weren’t just a Republican or a Conservative, but rather a mortal enemy.

I saw that change, and how it poisoned the atmosphere. And now I’m seeing it play out on a much larger stage with social media.

Now, I’m not saying that exceptions don’t exist. Matalin/Carville arentba good example because they predated (by a little bit, anyways) the change. But it’s damn near impossible given the acrimony, identity politics and personal destruction tactics that are being employed.

And, as I said earlier, it invariably causes more problems for the Democrat/Progressive in the relationship than the Republican/Conservative. Which is why I think this was kept low key in order to protect him and not her.

Nothing happens without God’s foreknowledge and permission, and He is never surprised at the consequences. Nor does He ever do anything wrong. There are no ‘accidents,’ only incidents.

White House Aide? Change.org? This may be the wrong place to say it, but I’m sick of fake TV conservatives who pretend to be conservative and then go home to their RAT spouse. Mary Matalin was bad enough, but I really trusted Mary Katherine Ham. I’m sorry she lost her husband, but now I’m more cynical than ever, and I didn’t think that was possible. I feel like giving up even watching politics.

Agree! There is a lot of fakery on FNC. Defining “fair and balanced” as equating truth with a lie is Obama BS!

Remember when Bill O’Reily used to use Al Sharpton until Sharpton personally dissed him over some charitable contribution to one of Al's scams.

Sucking up to queers is a good indicator that the subject “conservative” is a lying dog!

It only serves to bolster the notion that the whole ideological/political war in DC is a pantomime intended primarily to deceive.

Here, here. We are idiots to think there's a difference.

So, based on what you have stated, what does this have to do with the death of this young man that HE created?

DC is actually a small town vis a vis the political class. One cannot say “I’m a conservative(liberal) and will only socialize/speak with other conservatives(liberals)” unless one want a terribly lonely life.

Who enjoys preaching to the choir? If you truly believe your own political positions, you’re not threatened by meeting with those who think differently.

You are quite right. Snap judgments are usually found to be incorrect....particularly when those doling out such judgments have no personal knowledge of the people involved.

Anyone who claims to be Christian should be praying for this family. We should all remember what we often say to the Father in the Lord’s prayer: ...and “forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us...”

We are called to be merciful...as HE has been merciful to us. Often, when you really converse with individual liberals...it is easy to see how they have been duped by this culture. Many are basically nice people...just terribly ignorant and heavily influenced. We had better start praying more for them, evangelizing them when called to do so....and MOST of all, lead by example with our VIRTUOUS lives!
