Once an assailant gets close, it is easier to take a long gun than a short gun.

Therefore, carry both!

Trying to visualize your suggestion. Not seeing it.

That’s true. Most of my long guns aren’t as easily accessible, either. I don’t know if the owner had no other options for defense. The nice thing about these carbines is you can get a little better ballistic performance with 9mm and .45 ACP ammo - especially the +P.

A good tactical sling will really cut down on the chances of you being separated from your longarm.

If you remember one thing about gun defense, it’s that you keep a good distance from thperson at which your weapon is pointed, you verbally warn them to not come closer and you shoot the torso if they ignore your warning.

I.e.you NEVER let them get within their body height without shooting to kill.

Going outside to investigate noises alone was probably not a good idea, also.

Going outside alone invites ambush with an accomplice.

You investigate the noise with your long gun, preferably a 12 gauge short barrel, but with your holstered, chambered hand gun. Should the perp try to wrestle the long gun, you release one hand, draw, and send the perp straight to hell. It should be a practiced move.

Tell that to Victor Marx

Fortunately, I have a Glock surgically implanted in my forehead.

Blinking the left eye fires it, and blinking the right eye drops the magazine.

Blinking both eyes? Don't ask.

It’s probably some sort of Pez dispenser variant.

Seems pretty complicated and sounds like something from a movie, but if that works for you, great. Really I’m glad you have a plan, since we all should. I know that would never work for me/my family.

Around here, we have a multi-layered strategy. Practiced often, adjusted and tested. And then we drill it.

Ever mindful that what works for my crew wouldn’t neccessarily work for you.

Stay safe!

At first, I could only handle 7 round (NY SAFE ACT) magazines.

Butt now I'm up to C-BETA magazines.

Oh God. I just realized what that looks like.

I might be gun-queer.

It worked because the perps were doing it all wrong.
