"In July of this year, France launched Operation Barkhane, an ambitious counterterrorism initiative spread across five countries in Africa's Sahel and Sahara regions. The mission seeks to build upon the success of the French military intervention that drove al Qaeda-linked jihadi militants from northern Mali in 2013, and comes at a time when the US is expanding its own counterterrorism operations on the continent, setting the stage for what some analysts consider a burgeoning Franco-American alliance in Africa."

When the last war you've won had Napoleon at the helm, its going to take a while to change public opinion...
This year marked the 200th anniversary of France’s last win. Although it isn’t like they haven’t won a few battles since then. In 1940 the French (backed by the Germans) managed to defeat the French (backed by the British) in the Battle of Dakar. And they managed to defeat a much smaller Thai force at Ko Chang a few months later before France surrendered to the Thais. (In World War II alone, France surrendered to the Germans, Italians, British, Australians, Americans, Thais and Japanese.)
I dunno. They just look like they are chillin'. Don't see a lot of killin'.
