The liberal left is always quick to call the United States a democracy
Recently, in an interview with Thom Hartmann, former U.S. President Jimmy Carter said regarding 2010 Citizens United decision and the 2014 McCutcheon decision, It violates the essence of what made America a great country in its political system. Now its just an oligarchy with unlimited political bribery being the essence of getting the nominations for president or being elected president. Huffington Post goes on to explain that the decisions were rendered by five Republican judges on the U.S. Supreme Court.
According to liberal left commentators, experts, political minds, and the Huffington Post, the two rulings enable unlimited secret money (including foreign money) now to pour into U.S. political and judicial campaigns.
The Huff Post article then goes on to explain that in politics, there are only two choices. Either, we are an aristocracy (oligarchy) where the richest citizens desires are reflected in governmental actions, or we are a democracy where the leaders represent the public at large.

Really, sad fact, but true as all hell.
“It’s a Republic if you can keep it” ~ Benjamin Franklin
What Carter said about us being a monetarily influenced oligarchy was correct, but not in the way he meant it. Citizens United just partially rebalanced the scales between big interests on opposite sides.
Um—The Constitution establishes the US as a representative republic, not a democracy.
That is one funny movie!
It would be funnier if it wasn’t reality.
The problem is not that we do not have a democracy, but that we do have one.
The half of the people who have below-average IQ are pretty much completely influenced by media, which in turn are owned and funded by a tiny few.
This is how democracy works and why our Founders emphatically did not want one.
Let us not fool ourselves by playing into the fallacy that democracy is some utopian, ideal form of government. It is nothing more than mob rule with paperwork, where the rubber meets the road.
We are a republic. At least that’s what we’re suppose to be.
I blame the schools. To much time spent teaching about Sally has two moms and not enough history. Even many of our Government do not understand that the United States is not and has never been a Democracy.
Gee Jimmah - thank you for your early contribution to our fate!
It’s possible we are no longer a republic, certainly.
The federal government can run deficits. States can't, but states are run by politicians who want to promise more than they can give.
The feds move in with grant money with mandates attached using funds that will never be produced or collected.
Presto! We are a federalized system run from DC by politicians voted in by the idiot masses that live in dense urban areas.
The few states that have large enough rural/suburban communities to offset the urban cesspools are quickly being overrun by illegal aliens allowed in by the administration.
The misperception has become the reality.
We never were a Democracy. We were a Representative Republic.
Maybe one in a million at the most. Probably less than 500 in all 50 States.
