In what may prove to be a turning point for political action on climate change, a breathtaking new study casts extreme doubt about the near-term stability of global sea levels.
The studywritten by James Hansen, NASAs former lead climate scientist, and 16 co-authors, many of whom are considered among the top in their fieldsconcludes that glaciers in Greenland and Antarctica will melt 10 times faster than previous consensus estimates, resulting in sea level rise of at least 10 feet in as little as 50 years. The study, which has not yet been peer-reviewed, brings new importance to a feedback loop in the ocean near Antarctica that results in cooler freshwater from melting glaciers forcing warmer, saltier water underneath the ice sheets, speeding up the melting rate. Hansen, who is known for being alarmist and also right, acknowledges that his study implies change far beyond previous consensus estimates. In a conference call with reporters, he said he hoped the new findings would be substantially more persuasive than anything previously published. I certainly find them to be....

Technically, yes. I guess to me that was a given because I have been very familiar with “research” for decades before I retired. Regardless, you are correct.
Oh, please.
Hansen's predictions have been as "right" as Harold Camping's End Times dates.
Is NYC's West Side Highway twenty feet under water yet? No? Why not?
If so then why are a group of climatologists studying Arctic ice melting currently stuck in the ice?
Well, if you look in the unabridged rulebook for inner party members, you will see that the consensus actually CAN be wrong IF the new prediction better advances the cause of socialism.
The last time the alarmists were right was when they were warning their tribes that the arrival of the whites wasn’t a good thing.
Hansen has yet to get anything right. He is a false prophet, not a scientist. Why, in light of his miserable track record, does anybody still give this bloviating boob any credence?
Has anyone done the math? I tried to do a rough estimate of how much the volume of an extra 30 feet of water (all oceans)would be. My guess was that all the land above sea level would need to be covered with ice several miles thick.
I am no math genius so I would love to see someone’s calculations of volume of water (above seal level) trapped in the Artic and Antarctic vs. what volume and additional 10 feet (3 meters)in the oceans. It could be roughed by assuming the Planet is flat, and shorelines, remain the same, all water ends up only in the oceans.
If their previous models, from 10-20 years ago, were so far off, shouldn't we be seeing dire results today?
“Florida man” will become extinct!
Good. If the sea level rises 10 feet, I should have beach-front property by the time I die. Keep pumping that carbon into the air!!!!
I have discussions with family members....who are true believers...
I just ask them show me one, just one climate model in the last 20 years has been correct in its predictions and I will “Believe”.
Another hysterical sky is falling prediction from the globull warming / climate change scammers. ... Yawn
Great idea. I’m on it...
I think the time the dude explained the space shuttle’s O rings were flawed and everybody decided to let it go up in the air anyway ...
the only way not to be a denier is to go with “Climate Change”.....The libs have finally figured out how to prove that “settled science” and tax and control us in the process...
Ted Danson?
What kind of model are you referring too? A local model or a world model? A model that demonstrates how fast the Greenland icefield is disappearing (because right now it is getting smaller) or a model showing the oceans warming or some other kind of model? I just worry you might have left yourself open to an attack from your family members.
