Please note that there is a difference between the confident language of victory and the smug language of triumphalism. Barack Obama’s got the latter down pat. With a smirk on your face and your nose in the air, you remind everyone that you won, and you’re going to do what you want to do - and even if you’re not supposed to do it, who’s going to stop you?

We’ve always known he can talk like that. But the language of victory? Sure, you can cite the whole oceans-rising-planet-healing thing, but even there it was more about exalting a generation (at least the ones who supported him) before they had ever really done anything to deserve it. Gird yourselves for a worthy battle and wait for inspiring words of confidence from the commander in chief? Yeah, good luck with that:

He's waiting for the best politically advantageous time to pull off a miracle victory, coincidentally right before the next presidential elections. He loves all the current obfuscation blustering about his lack of resolve. He probably knows the exact date they declare victory after a short but intense bombing campaign.
