Imagine that, another phony hate crime.
A Utah man who alleged assailants carved homophobic slurs into his arms, robbed his pizza restaurant and firebombed his house has admitted faking the attacks, authorities said.
Now the question is whether Rick Jones, 22, of Delta will be prosecuted for reporting false crimes, Millard County Sheriff Robert Dekker told CNN affiliate KSL.
“The investigation has come to an end today with the admission of Richard (Rick) L. Jones Jr. to having staged all of the incidents,” the Sheriff’s Office and County Attorney’s office said in a Tuesday statement.
Dekker said he didn’t know why Jones staged the crimes. Jones’ lawyer, Brett Tolman, told KSL that Jones asked him to contact the Sheriff’s Office and call off the investigation.
They don’t know why? Um, maybe he has an agenda?
“At this point we are working with investigators and with the community at trying to point out and recognize that what this really amounts to is a very serious cry for help by an individual … who is gay and is in need of mental health treatment, which he is getting,” Tolman said. “I don’t think it was an intention on the part of our client to do anything criminal.”
People who donated money for Jones will be reimbursed, he said, noting that the fundraisers were not Jones’ idea.
In a story that ran on CNN.com in June, Jones said he was first attacked outside his family-owned pizza restaurant and woke up with the words “die” carved into one arm and the word “f*g” in the other. The restaurant was robbed twice and homophobic slurs were painted on the eatery and the home he shares with his parents, he said.
Back when this bulls**t story was concocted a headline screamed They Carved ‘Die Fag’ Into His Arms at the Daily Beast. Curiously, the author is ignoring the latest developments. Funny, that.
In addition to the local charges, the Dept. of Just-Us should lodge “hate crime” charges against him!
When a story about this incident was originally posted here, pretty much every FReeper who commented called it a hoax. Wasn’t exactly hard to see that...
If he did it ‘to bring attention to the oppression of gays, etc’, then he knew it was wrong when he made the reports. Prosecute him for all the false reports.

-he’s arrested for theft if he took the $1800
-his parent’s fire insurance is cancelled
-his business partners (his 3 sisters) kick him out of the company
Other than that...I feel sorry for the guy.
How close to 100% is the record on these things?
I would be shocked if he gets prosecuted for anything. Reason being, his excuse is that he is a homosexual. He is a member of a recognized grievance group. Such people have more rights than you or I. Such people are held to a different standard than you or I. The police report will indicate that a troubled individual was crying out for help or some such description, that there was no criminal intent, and that there is no need for any legal proceedings against him for anything.
All gay hate crimes should now be considered as fake as all of the staged ahootings across the nation.

The only fitting punishment is what the falsely accused would have gotten.

Notice how the lesbian accuser is not called "gay" or "lesbian" in the headline, but rather "Mom." How sweet.
