Donald Trump announces his 2016 candidacy - yes, really!

Sadly, the American dream is dead. But if I get elected President I’ll bring it back. Bigger, better, and stronger than ever before.” That’s the word from billionaire real estate mogul Donald Trump who, just moments ago, announced he was running for President. I don’t have much to add to his bombastic speech, so I’ll simply say this. Whatever happens with Trump’s candidacy, it was incredibly refreshing to hear someone who is unapologetic about their wealth and success.

2012 gave us a mealy-mouthed Mitt Romney who was constantly trying to shirk the fact that he was a well-heeled success story. It felt like he was always trying to deny his financial reality in a phony effort to be “just like you.” Trump isn’t doing that at all. As he put it, he’s “the most successful person ever to run for the presidency, by far.”

He’s famously claimed he has “a Gucci store worth more money than Romney.”

...And I love that. To hell with the “wealth-shamers.” It’s about time SOMEONE decided to stand up and be proud of their own success. You’re whining about “income inequality” because you’re unsuccessful? Sorry. That sounds like a “you problem.”

“And Donald Trump is no Ronald Reagan.”

You never know. He has the potential. He speaks his mind, is a natural leader, and is tough. Good qualities IMO.

President Reagan was a successful governor of California for 8 years prior to running for and winning the office of president. Donald Trump has never occupied a public office in his life and therefore lacks anything even remotely resembling what Ronald Reagan was before becoming president. How you could consider Trump to be in any way comparable to one the greatest presidents of all time I don’t know. But, opinions do vary and you’re certainly entitled to yours.

We agree on one thing, that RR was one o the greatest Presidents ever. I told you how I think they are similar. Trump speaks his mind, is a natural leader, and doesn’t back away from a fight. He has a backbone. Yes, he hasn’t been a pol, but that isn’t necessarily a bad thing, is it. And he has been incredibly successful, as was Ronald Reagan.

I saw RR speak in 1976 at Mile Square Park in California. I was young and had little interest in politics, but some friends wanted me to go with them and they talked me into going. At the time I was completely unaware of political ideology or any that I may hold. We got there early and threw Frisbees and just enjoyed the park while we waited. What seemed like an eternity later the crowd started gathering. Many hours later Governor Reagan arrived. The crowd was huge but we were just off the right side of the stage, close enough to where I could see. I listened closely to all he had to say and he made perfect sense! It was then I realized I was a conservative. I registered as a Republican and was for over 30 years until Bush screwed that all up.

Reagan didn't get the nomination that year, Ford did. But we did it all over again in 1980 and Reagan won. ;-)

Reagan was a great man. Would that he were President rather than that commie/pinko/fascist/socialist/piece of rot that is in the WH this very moment. What a disgusting hunk of garbage he is.
