I don’t think a cordless saw is going to cut through 1/2” iron pipe.
I’ve got one and while it’s great on wood, it doesn’t have the power for steel.
I’m almost wondering if it was a reverse escape. Like someone spent days underground breaking in to help them get out

I dont think a cordless saw is going to cut through 1/2 iron pipe. Ive got one and while its great on wood, it doesnt have the power for steel. Oh they'll cut steel. I use one on re-bar all the time, admittedly the pipe is going to take a lot longer but a good high torque saw, a good blade and patience would get them through. Probably a few extra battery packs would be necessary too.

I agree. Knowledge of the schematics would have made the break easy. The cuts were very clean and speak of someone with skills.
