The best analogy I’ve heard is the anorexic who looks in the mirror at a 5’7”, 90 lb body and sees a fat person. We don’t encourage an anorexic to diet, and we shouldn’t encourage a guy who sees himself as a girl to pretend to be one.
There was a time, long ago, when sanity meant a connection between your thoughts and reality. I miss those times.

I know correlation does not equal causation, but I am guessing at commonality — faulty brain wiring.
Here again lies a contradiction. While we feel people with autism, ADHD, etc. should be steered away from certain thoughts or behaviors, somehow the above is acceptable.
