The reports did have some good news. Groping, rudeness and long lines were among the highlights and specialties of agents in the field.

He will stay around and get an outrageous paycheck, he’s not fired from the federal paycheck.

Don't forget that less than 1% of C-Pap machines got through without an explosives test. Plus all the bottles of shampoo, conditioner and lotion they were able to confiscate.

After all, isn't that what really is important to security theater?

If private contractors only failed at a 90% rate we should switch back immediately.

Actually security is not one of the higher priorities of their responsibilities. Top priorities are: Groping passengers, seizing cash, identifying valuables to steal from luggage, union business, insulting passengers, destroying packages, etc. are high priorities with security being incidental and not all that essential.

TSA has existed for well over a decade of hiring and training personnel. Carraway was only Acting Director for ~ 5 months, which is NOT long enough to accomplish retraining ALL employees nor to develop and implement NEW more effective policies and train EVERYONE. Carraway is the fall guy so Jeh Johnson won't lose his job.

Everyone knows based on experience that TSA security is a serious waste of citizen's time and tax payer dollars.

In 2004 I shared a cross-country flight with an Israeli professional - who volunteered that the TSA is a SERIOUS JOKE, waste of time and money. He stated in order to be effective, TSA should adopt Israeli methods and training, including hiring well educated screeners, profiling and questioning based upon passenger observations and their responses when questioned by TSA.

Everyone knows (except TSA) the threat to date has been primarily from male Islamists late teens to early 30s, NOT Christian, US Citizens!

After 9/11 airport security was a patchwork-quilt of various groups. The Bush administration wanted to centralize security, but the DemocRATs in Congress insisted that they become Federal employees. Bush capitulated. The result? TSA.

Back in ‘01-’02 the Dems demanded the screening agents be federal employees, and we had to have certain quotas (ender/race/ethnicity) fulfilled. Should this result surprise?

(T)heatrics, (S)luggishness, (A)pathy...

At least, that’s what is demonstrated by the TSA in Atlanta on a consistent basis.

Shoe Bomber: Missed by TSA; Stopped by passengers & cabin crew
Underwear Bomber: Missed by TSA; Stopped by passengers & cabin crew
Various idiots/drnks/nut-cases: Stopped by passengers & cabin crew, perhaps a few air marshalls...

They should write a law that makes it legal and provides some sort of award for stopping/thwarting a terrorist(s) in-flight and conceals your identity. If three or more passengers agree and/or if cabin crew asks for assistance, you are held harmless if you have to thump some idiot — not sure of the details but something along those lines. I’ll leave the legislative sausage-making to those smarter than me.
