I’ve not read the books, but I’ve re-watched previous seasons multiple times, and I’m seeing this season as a build-up to several big events.

Sam is in trouble, and I have a feeling he’ll be running away from Castle Black to either join Stannis or head back north of the wall to find Jon Snow. There was some foreshadowing between Stannis and Sam in a previous S05 episode, and this recent episode had Alliser warning Sam that he’s running out of friends.

I have to say that I’m genuinely interested to figure out where the Tyrion-Jorah thread goes. Could someone refresh my memory, what did Jorah do to Dany that she despises him? Her disgust for him despite vanquishing all of those in the fighting pits was palpable. And she seemed completely disinterested in the fact that Tyrion was there. I was expecting a bigger reaction. Poor acting or expected from the book?

I might have missed the thrust of the discussion, but what was the deal with Melisandre and Stannis? Was she looking to sacrifice his daughter?

And finally, the Cersei stuff was expected. As soon as she called on the the fanatics to seize Margarey’s brother, I said to my wife, “That’s going to backfire on her with all the skeletons in her closet.” Looks like her chickens have come home to roost.

As a writer and a fan of this genre, I love character development, and this season strikes me as a strong character development season. It’s a welcome reprieve from the standard bloodfest that GoT has been in season’s past, but I have a feeling there’s going to be some nastiness coming. They usually hit us hard in episodes 6-9 before ending on 10.

what did Jorah do to Dany that she despises him?

Very early on, Jorah was a spy for Varys. The expectation was that Viserys was worth watching, and Jorah would send news to Kings Landing. And, oh yeah, Viserys had a sister names Danaerys who married a guy named Khal Drogo and then got pregnant. When Robert Baratheon found out about that, he sent an assassin. Now, the assassin was foiled by Jorah (who had had a change of heart), but Dany eventually found out that Jorah had been a spy and she exiled him immediately. Obviously he is not forgiven.

I'll have to watch again -- I thought that Dany was surprised and at least somewhat pleased (in a calculating way) when she realized that Tyrion Lannister was before her.

In the books, Sam is not really in trouble, but he will be taking a trip.

Yeah, Melisandre likes to sacrifice people with royal blood. And, hey, Shireen is already spoiled with greyscale, so why not sacrifice her? I guess Dad felt differently.

I see Shireen as Stannis’ undoing or at least his weak spot, but I also see a young girl who might grow up to be a very calculating ruler as well.

Dany’s demeanor was completely unchanged. I didn’t detect a hint of surprise.

I thought Jorah’s “slight” was something altogether inconsequential, but Dany strikes me as being somewhat petulant and impulsive. As she’s been in Mereen, she seems to be “getting it,” but I find her character somewhat boring, almost as if the HBO writers were thinking, “She’s the queen of fricking dragons! She doesn’t need a personality!”

I just watched the scene again and I agree that her reaction was ... understated. In the books, she has not met Tyrion, so we don't know how she is "supposed to" react, but last night is was a bit of a nothing.

I read one piece a while ago which indicated that Dany is supposed to be conquering Westeros -- instead, she is trying to govern a rebellious slaver city. Things won't go well for her until she gets out of Mereen and focuses on her real purpose. And her final scene in the most recent book advances that plot development. With nothing to go on beyond that point, I think the TV writers really have her "on hold" until next year. So for now she's pretty boring.

Please and me to the ping list, thanks.

I’m new to GOT, so please don’t treat me like a new girl at the brothel. Not like there are any left in Kings Landing.

Only 3 episodes left for this year and not much has happened to move the story along. Maybe we will be pleasantly surprised over the next 3 weekends.
The story has begun to diverge from the books. I hope it doesn’t stray too far.

I just watched the scene again, and she clearly is surprised. She wasn’t expected to see Jorah in the fighting pits, and she wasn’t expecting him to offer her a “gift”. It is understated, though. You can see her mouth open in surprise. If I were in her situation, I wouldn’t know what to think right away, either. LOL!

Emma Peel! She clearly has the upper hand when dealing with Cersei!

Argh ! Here be Dragons Here Be Spoilers From the Episode!

So Much Happened in this Episode and that is a good thing!

A: Theon is such a Little B!tch. >:(

Rats out Sansa to Ramsay.

This season Sansa had almost finally gotten to the level of Rook. Sadly know she is right back down to pawn (Sigh)

B: Stannis finally told the Red Witch to bugger off. He finally finds his spine to stand up to her and hopefully he will keep it. And everyone here is correct. Stannis is the only one who is making any Progress and the only who hasn't Completely burned all his escape bridges.

That is Why Stannis is the Mannis

C: While I am Most Pleased that Bronn isn't dying of Poison. But what the point of him being poisoned to begin with if the writers were just going to cure him immediately?

To show that he is vulnerable? That Dornish Girls are *****g Crazy? That the Sand Snakes are threats? Fan Service?

Also Myrcella told Jamie Off! "You Don't Know Me!"

D: Maester Aemon, AWWW! So Sad! But he died as he lived. Peaceful. Not too many in the show can say that.

Also Sam finally got some! YAY!

E: I don't like Dany's Husband to be. Dany's plan is ill thought out, She needs Jorah Mormont but she is still holding a grudge (for some reason, maybe Tryion can clear that up) Like Jorah said last season, they weren't fighting to make her Queen of King's Landing, likewise they aren't fighting to make her Queen of Meereen. What happens if she Marries this Douchebag and then Sails to Westeros? They aren't going to accept some Easteros Guy as the King?!?

WHAT IS SHE THINKING!?!?

Her Boy Toy Daario is the only one with any sense left in her Council. Cut off all their Heads and be done with it

F: Finally, King's Landing, where we are getting some Juicy and Worthy Plots!

Emma Peel faced down Cearsi and the High Sparrow. However, I don't think she made much Impact.

What is Intrigue to a Short Sighted Idiot?

What is Gold and Name to a Religious Fanatic?

Tommen had a Little Joffery Slip through there.

Also, from Last Episode and this one. Margaery , Tommen and Cearsi need to remember Tywin's advice

https://youtu.be/hRrV1ff33iM?t=2m

Littlefinger and Emma Peel are plotting something, They Cut to Black before we could find out >:(

I don't see a way out of this for The Tyrell's or Even Littlefinger, What do they have the High Sparrow?

Breaking Margaery to call Cearsi a "Hateful B!tch!" was Cearsi's Crowing Achievement in her mind. She has most of the Tyrells in a Cell or away to have an "Accident" in Braavos and things are looking up for her.

THEN the Best Part of the Episode.

All her Stupidity and Short Sightedness comes crashing in around her and her Plot bites her Royally (Pun intended) in her Royal Ass!

Everyone saw that Arming the Faith of the Seven guys who have your Cousin that YOU PLOTTED WITH TO MURDER KING ROBERT there with them wasn't going to end well.

And it didn't.

Not Surprisingly having his Mom in the Stoney Lonesome has also dramatically increased Tommen's Chances of Survival in my eyes.

I could be wrong, but I think Littlefinger was talking about Lancel Lannister when he and Emma Peel were plotting in what was left of his brothel. Getting Cersei thrown in jail doesn't get the Queen of Thorns' grandchildren out of jail, but it does get her some revenge on Cersei.

I do appreciate the fact that Sansa hasn’t given up yet. She may be powerless now, but I don’t think she’ll stay that way. They haven’t positioned Brienne up there for nothing.

But then what happens if/when Stannis takes Winterfell?

Brienne has sworn vengeance on Stannis?

Oh So My Tales coming together!

Who was it that Ramsay flayed and showed to Sansa? Were we meant to believe it was Brienne?

No, that was the little old lady chambermaid who told Sansa "The North remembers," when Sansa arrived at Moat Cailin a couple of eps ago.
