My son once asked me about Pell Grants some time before he applied to Georgia Tech. I told him that I work and that he is white. He wouldn’t get any kind of grant.

He later graduated with honors after an entire run on the deans list not having paid one cent because of the Georgia Hope Scholarship fund.

We’ve got more than enough receiving papers through diploma mills that cannot find a job. And a lot of these haven’t committed crimes that would put them in prison.

I would guess that diploma mills are the ones pushing this. There is a lot of money to be made off the taxpayers.

Pell Grants need to be declared unconstitutional for several reasons. 1) government monies should go for public/government purposes, not for private charity that benefits individuals. 2)It’s political , often racial...and UNFAIR because Pell Grants are based on “need” & unlike food, shelter or clothing or emergency healthcare... college is not the same kind of “need” & Pell Grants are based on your parents’ income, which is irrelevant.
All college students are equally poor & are over 18 years old, so their parents income should not matter. College students are NOT legally entitled to any of their parents’ income, nor are parents legally obligated to pay for the college education of their children. Pell Grants allow the state to grant a free college education to the children of those who pay no taxes or the least amount of taxes-—on the backs of parents who pay the most taxes & receive the least from government. Often times, people getting Pell Grants have been on the government dole from birth...and now are getting a free college education, too. But all college students should be treated equally under the law and if one student gets a free college education on the state, then ALL college students should get free college paid for by the government. If equal protection belongs to same sex marriage....then equal protection should apply to paying for college, too. And as far as Pell Grants for prison inmates, where’s there any equal protection?
College students work their way through college to ay their way & barely have time to study...but people in prison for committing crimes should get accepted into college before they’ve even finished doing their time...and law-abiding tax-paying citizens on the outside should be forced to pay for the college education of prison inmates, whom the state thinks are more worthy recipients than our own children. I don’t think so. People should go to JAIL for giving government monies/public monies to pay for college education of criminals......

Nothing new. Inmates have been getting “free” college educations for decades.

Thank you for referencing that article 2ndDivisionVet. As usual, please bear in mind that the following critique is directed at the article and not at you.

"Democrats Seeking Pell Grants for Inmates at the Expense of the Law Abiding"

FR: Never Accept the Premise of Your Opponent’s Argument

Since the states have never delegated to the feds, expressly via the Constitution, the specific power to tax and spend for intrastate schooling purposes, the feds actually don’t have the constitutional authority to give pell grants to either law abiding citizens or inmates.

This is all being done to win votes from low-information voters who have probably never been taught about the federal government’s constitutionally limited powers.

And as a consequence of the ill-conceived 17th Amendment the Senate would probably help the House to pass such a bill, corrupt senators wanting their fair share of votes from constitutionally clueless voters.
