Just like with Germany-in-general (and Gunter Grass in particular) Sweden's obsessive liberalism -especially regarding minorities/immigration- could be understood as enduring societal guilt for their forefathers' close collaboration with the Nazis while cowardly claiming to be 'neutral'...
Sweden's role as Nazi Germany's key iron ore supplier has been dismissed
-as Swiss banking often was- as mere 'commercial' transactions, but it's hard to explain-away new information in a just-released book detailing how the Swedish government assisted the Wehrmacht's invasion of neighboring Norway by offering Sweden's national railways to ferry troops and equipment north, which were then used to defeat the British at Narvik (leading to Nazi occupation of the entire country, their first conquest).
Trains going the other way later carried iron-ore and Jews to Germany
(both basically headed for the furnace).
All the benefits of joining of the Axis alliance, with NONE of the negatives:
NO fighting against the the Germans initially, Hitler won't bomb you, then no fighting for the Germans... abandon the Jews to their fate, make a fortune doing business with Berlin-- and plausible deniability throughout.
Pretty wormy move- they should be ashamed.

Yeeeaaaah! Make them pay reparations!!!! Poor Swedes, boxed in between a rock and a hard pile with nothing but bad choices regardless of which side they may have taken. Russia Communism on the east and Nazis on the right. Taking either side they would have been bombed and run over. To sell or not sell their iron ore could mean they are taking sides no mater what direction they went. Had England Invaded Norway first, the Swedes would have had them as customers. Some Swedes did fight in the war, most volunteers went to Finland to help with the Communist invasion there. Oh, yes there were a few volunteers in the German SS too who fought on the eastern front. I can’t find my text book on German Operations in Scandinavia at the moment, but I don’t recall seeing anything in it about Germans using the Swedish rail system for troop movements. Now I am going to have to find that book.
Sweden took in Jews during the war to save them, not to ship them to Germany. Had they done that, they would have probably lost their neutral status. Sweden was also a intermediary between the Allies and the Axis, as was Switzerland, Portugal and Spain. OMG, wouldn’t you want to be neutral if you had a population of about 5? million faced with enemies who had between 70 to 300 million? I know they were Vikings, but after a while you get tired of swinging your axe, while holding that heavy shield, it means the enemy has to send more troops before you get totally tired. ;o)
That infers that the Nazi Party (German national socialist workers party) wasn't liberal. Sweden hasn't "become liberal" they are still liberal just like the Nazi's. You think the PTBs in Sweden give a crap if the serfs are killed? Muslims, more specifically Sharia law, will give them the power of absolute rule which is the only thing liberals desire.
