KS: Governor Brownback Signs Constitutional Carry

Governor Sam Brownback said that he would sign the Kansas constitutional carry bill on Thursday, 2 April, 2015, and he did exactly what he said he would do.  The bill restores Kansas to very close to the legal status that the entire country was in regarding the carrying of weapons, when the second amendment was ratified.

Governor Brownback complimented gun owners.  He said that they have shown them selves to be responsible.  From ksnt.com:

Supporters of the bill said gun owners have shown they can be trusted to carry concealed.

Brownback said gun owners have shown they are responsible.

Governor Brownback made another comment that show that he is better educated about the nature of rights than most politicians.  From a tweet at the site, the Governor said that people in Kansas 'shouldn't need a permission slip' to exercise their rights.

With this bill, most infringements on  the second amendment have been removed in Kansas.

This is fitting, in a way, as Kansas is where the justification for many of the infringements on the right to keep and carry arms was concocted.    In 1905, the Kansas Supreme Court created the "collective right" mythology out of whole cloth.   Kansas was an early "Progressive" state.   The frontier had been declared at an end; and "Progressives" were declaring that the Constitution was an old and outdated document that did not fit the "modern" era.

Note that this is when automobiles were an extreme rarity; airplanes hardly more than a rumor, and horses the primary means of transportation.  The vast majority of people did not have telephones or electricity.   It is the hubris of every age to consider itself modern and different.  Many sincerely believe that the old rules do not apply, because (insert excuse of the day, here).

Now Kansas, as a state, has made up for some of the foolishness that its Supreme Court inflicted on the nation back in 1905.  Kansas joins five other states that enjoy constitutional carry.  They are, Alaska, Arizona, Arkansas, Wyoming, and Vermont.  None of them have exhibited any of the "blood in the street" problems that the disarmists always attempt to scare people with.

Congratulations Kansas, the Kansas legislature, and Governor Brownback!  May you serve as an example to others!

The new law will take effect on 1 July, 2015.

Constitutional carry is only safe in a few select states. The mere act of crossing a border can make a safe person unsafe.

I'm pretty firm on the 10th, also. I'll take my chances, but typically, carry has been a State power, and I think it should be. I want the feds kept out of it, except for the military training and possibly arming.

Not a popular position, but that's how I see it.
