Accdg to on Peter Johnson on FoxNews, there seems to be some discrepancy:
Some sources say the co-pilot only had 600 hours of training, but to received the FAA recognition would require substantially more experience.

aviation-business-gazette.com seems like a legit site. It has advertising from real businesses. I doubt if they wouldn't print something in Sept. 2013 about the co-pilot that wasn't true.
Anyways, Peter Johnson is an ignorant, liberal a-hole with a below average IQ. He also acts like a fem. (You can ask me what I really think of him, if you like.)

600 hours in that aircraft type.
Not 600 hours of total flight time.

For an FAA ATP you must have 1500hrs.
With 600 hrs he can be an FAA rated commercial pilot, instrument-rated.
Major US carriers won't usually even talk to you until you have an ATP.
The young guys flying the little commuter airlines usually have a commercial instrument ticket and are building up their hours and experience so they can eventually earn an ATP and move to the majors.
