Last week I grabbed a cup of coffee and had a chat with Democratic National Committee member Jason Rae, one of a spate of Democrats vying to succeed Mike Tate as Chairman of the Democratic Party of Wisconsin. I met with Jason at his request, but rather than sit and interview him, he wanted to pick my brain about the DPW Chair race and the state of the Democratic Party here in Wisconsin.
As I shared my thoughts on the DPW Chair race, I started by noting the many, many criticisms of the poor messaging efforts on the part of the Democratic Party of Wisconsin over the past five years, and Jason agreed that the Democratic Party cannot win in Wisconsin with a message that revolves largely around, Scott Walker is eeevil or some permutation of that message. Instead of relying on a message that Democrats are against Scott Walker and that Scott Walker is bad, Jason noted the DPW needs to come up with a coherent message that will appeal to a broad swath of Wisconsinites, including those voters who may have some measure of buyers remorse after the 2014 election. Jason said Democrats need to get back to a clear message that includes a focus on public education and a minimum wage increase, because in his words Democrats in Wisconsin need to stand for something, instead of simply standing against Scott Walker.
I also noted Jason was taking a lot of criticism from many who believe because of his status as a member of the Democratic National Committee and his strong ties to the Democratic Party of Wisconsin he would not represent a real change from the status quo. While acknowledging his strong ties to the national Democratic Party and the Democratic Party of Wisconsin could lead to many viewing him as the establishment candidate who wouldnt represent much of a change from current DPW Chair Mike Tate, Rae challenged that idea. He made it clear he believed the relationships he has built thanks to his involvement in the DNC would allow him the ability if needed to reach out to Democrats across the nation to help rebuild the Democratic Party in Wisconsin.
I also challenged Jason regarding the lack of specificity as relates to his vision for moving the Democratic Party of Wisconsin forward, and he readily acknowledged he needs to do a better job of laying out a clear, detailed plan on how hed build the Democratic Party of Wisconsin back up into a viable statewide party. In fact, Jason noted he has already started putting together a more detailed and comprehensive plan to address concerns that his plans arent specific enough.
While I understand many activists and grassroots types may remain skeptical of Jason Raes candidacy for DPW Chair due to his perceived close ties to the current DPW establishment, our conversation made it pretty clear to me that hes not interested in continuing along the same path that the Democratic Party of Wisconsin has been on. That being said, Im still undecided on which candidate Ill support for DPW Chair, because each candidate possesses strengths and weaknesses.
The Scott Walker Legacy - to date.
When the Democrats don’t get their way it’s a hate crime.
They’ll find somebody else for the Two Minutes Hate.
First it was Reagan, then it was GWB, then it was Palin.
Meet the new hate, same as the old hate.
Looks like the Left is up the creek without a paddle.
Yes, I expect that the Left will remain in their comfort zone - labor to make voters hate the GOP (run by the Tea Party and Koch brothers) — convince uneducated and dependent voters to be in a rage against those “eeevil” conservatives — entice their shrinking base with class warfare and race baiting, not to see what the Democratic Party has and hasn’t done.
The Den party have and always been the party of hate, going back from slavery to today.
Their best weapon is to accuse others of what they do to deflect attention and their hate away form themselves while making their sheep point the finger the other way,
There's nowhere to go but up. LOL

AP: Gov. Walker to sign Right-to-Work bill at Badger Meter in Brown Deer BROWN DEER (AP) Governor Scott Walker plans to sign the right-to-work bill on Monday, March 9th at a Milwaukee-area company whose leader spoke out in favor of the measure this week.
Walker announced Friday that he will sign the bill at Badger Meter in Brown Deer.
Badger Meters CEO and Chairman Rich Meeusen this week said passing the bill will lead to between 30 and 50 new jobs at his factory. He spoke out after a coalition of more than 400 businesses joined together in opposition to the proposal.
The Assembly passed it Friday morning on a party line vote with all Republicans in favor and all Democrats against.
What we`re gonna be seeing is a weakening of the power of labor over the next couple years and along with that the weakening of the power of the Democratic Party.
It`s almost like what we`re seeing (Monday) is the moment Wisconsin becomes a Republican state, UW-Milwaukee Professor Mordecai Lee said.....
DPW = Democratic Party of Wisconsin = Dept of Public Works...
Ya think????
Good one!!
The real issue is that they have zero good candidates.
There is talk of running Gwen Moore against Ron Johnson. That should be a hoot. The other possible candidate is Russ Feingold, a retread.
The only reason Obama and Tammy Baldwin won in 2012 is the massive outside organization brought in by OFA. It wasn’t so much a campaign as an effort to briefly kidnap every possible democrat vote to drag them to vote.

That's a great thought for a Monday morning...and everyday going forward!
Democrat Party Chair
With gleeful assistance of some FReepers who just don’t get it (and never will, but it doesn’t matter)
That’s the most kind and generous reply I’ve ever gotten.
