Texas Sen. Ted Cruz alleged Saturday that the Justice Department's pending criminal corruption charges against New Jersey Democratic Sen. Robert Menendez may be retaliation by the Obama administration.
He told reporters at the Iowa Agricultural Summit in Des Moines that it was "awfully coincidental" that the charges would be soon forthcoming against Menendez, The Hill reports.
Menendez, 61, the leading Democrat on the Senate Foreign Affairs Committee, has long attacked Obama's international policy, including his plans to rebuild ties with Cuba and the ongoing nuclear talks with Iran.
He chaired the Senate panel before the Republicans won control of the upper chamber in the November elections.
"The announcement this week by the Justice Department that they were bringing charges against Bob Menendez I will point out that the timing seems awfully coincidental that
in the very week that Bob Menendez showed incredible courage to speak out and call out President Obama for the damage that his policy is doing to our national security

Ted Cruz is the only politician with the courage to speak out in public the truths that all the others know, but won’t say.
I don’t doubt Menendez is guilty but it is awful odd that the charges come up now.
You just figuring this out, Ted?
I suspect it is less retaliation than warnings to other Senators who might be thinking of voting against new sanctions against Iran, though retaliation is necessarily apart of that.
Wish Cruz was majority leader - we might actually stop the monster in the WH.
So true isn’t it. It goes to show how deep the corruption goes. Like I said on countless posts before, if it was up to me every single member of congress would be immediately removed from office and tried for treason and sentenced to death if found guilty. The code is quite clear and it’s one of the reasons this country has survived as long as it has. When it isn’t enforced, rebellion is the next step. Obama knows this which is why he is trying to disarm the people.
18 U.S. Code § 2381 - Treason
Whoever, owing allegiance to the United States, levies war against them or adheres to their enemies, giving them aid and comfort within the United States or elsewhere, is guilty of treason and shall suffer death, or shall be imprisoned not less than five years and fined under this title but not less than $10,000; and shall be incapable of holding any office under the United States.
They are all guilty of something and NSA knows what those somethings are. Menendez is small potatoes compared to, say, Feinstein or Reid. Menendez spoke against the Iran deal and against the Cuba initiative. There are other Democrats who are uncomfortable with the Iran deal- several of the Jews and even others. Dumping on Menendez is a clear signal to the others of like mind. If JustUs will go after a minor malefactor like Menendez...
Everyone has a soft underbelly, maybe most are mild, like crabby at the spouse, but people like Obama and his goons will FIND those weaknesses and delight that they can use them when needed.
Look at that Epstein pedo character. When his 16-year old sex slave asked him why all these famous people come to his sex island, epstein answered that he liked having the goods on these men.
I don’t doubt that the reason the Democrats March in lockstep and maintain such iron discipline is because they are all corrupt. But no changes will ever be brought unless they deviate from the party line.
Menendez is lucky he hasn’t ended up in Fort Marcy Park.
Obama can’t afford a single act of rebellion from within his own party because it might inspire others to do the same.
I agree that pretty much all are dirty to some extent which is why term limits are a good idea. The longer they’re in Washington the dirtier they get.
Odd...
And another oddity:
Just days after Huelskamp played a prominent role in fighting ‘clean’ DHS funding...

“A staffer for Rep. Tim Huelskamp, R-Kan., has been arrested and charged with sexual exploitation of a child, according to KWCH in Kansas.”
I agree and there is plenty of dirt on the GOP side as well. I predict that McCain, Graham, Pete King and others will be along shortly to denounce Ted Cruz and his “conspiracy theory”.
Menendez didn’t quite follow the party line as they thought he should, therefore he will pay the price for not being a good little Democrat soldier. Just like say Trafficant, and some other former Democrats that just sort of disappeared from favor.
IF YOU ARE a Democrat YOU WILL do as the party tells you no matter the consequence, and THEY WILL take care of you for life. THAT’s why Democrats stick to their blatant bullshit the way they do. They know they will be rewarded by the party even if they are tossed by their constituency.
I am sure our Dicktater has accumulated a massive amount of manure on congressional members, including quite a few top republicans.
He’s had dirt collected on military leaders.
Also, for some reason, Hussein wants to destroy the Clintons.
That is why I think that Obama will somehow wrangle a run for a third term.
He’s sure he’ll win with Hillary gone.
That’s why he’s been shipping “refugees” in here from all over the world and then giving them jobs and IRS bonuses upon their arrival.
He’s cultivating votes.
I have always believed that the one defect of the Constitution was in not limiting senators and house members to one term. And no pensions. And the really bad amendment is the 17th. One term limitation makes them much less profitable for large corporations and foundations and such if they have to keep buying the same seat every two or six years It works for foreign subornation of pols, too.
Meanwhile no warrants issued for Hillary's highly illegal private e-mail server.
