New Anti-Cop Protests Whine: “It Was Just a Rock”

When a criminal attacks police with a weapon, there are cases where they can probably take him down without using lethal force, but let’s be realistic. Once you attack police with a weapon capable of causing harm, they’re not obligated to pussyfoot around. And anyone who does that needs to keep something that basic in mind. Or get shot.

The rallying cry in Ferguson was “Hands up, don’t shoot!” In New York, it was “I can’t breathe!” In Pasco these days, the protest signs say things like “It was just a rock!!!”

In a case with unmistakable echoes of Ferguson and New York, demonstrators have gathered every day over the past week in front of City Hall to demand answers in the deadly police shooting of Antonio Zambrano-Montes, a 35-year-old Mexican immigrant and former orchard worker who authorities say was throwing rocks at officers.

The Feb. 10 killing — captured on cellphone video by an onlooker — was the fourth by law enforcement officers in Pasco in less than a year. It has sparked calls for a federal investigation and roiled this fast-growing agricultural city of 68,000, where more than half the residents are Hispanic but few are members of the police force or the power structure…

All three officers — two whites and one Hispanic — opened fire;

It was just a rock is not an argument. Cops do overreact in some cases, but who thinks that throwing rocks at cops should be a right or should end well?

Rocks thrown at people can and do cause serious injuries. The entire narrative has melted down into, “You should be free to attack cops without getting shot.”

That’s a stupid narrative even by the low, low standards of this crowd.

You make a good point - watching a video is exactly the same as being the protagonist in it.

The Brian Williams worldview.

From that distance, how can you tell if it is a small rock or not?

I’m not sure what the rules are for the cops, but here in WA state, a civilian can use deadly force to stop a felony assault - which is what throwing a rock at someone would be.

It looked like he had already thrown one rock when he was by the squad car (and then the subsequent shots fired), and it looked to me like he was going to throw another one with the cop 10 feet away from him.

Watching what actually happened is quite an advantage in knowing what happened, you should try watching it.

There was no reason to execute the man.

I bet Koon and Powell are wishing they’d thought to argue “It was just a nightstick!”
