A Wisconsin woman who works for the Oconomowoc School District is being harassed over the possession of an electrical stun gun in her vehicle's glove box. She may be criminally charged. In most of the country, this would not be an issue. But Wisconsin is a swing state. In the 90's, Democrats dominated, and passed a law that seemed designed to snare legal gun owners, modeled after the Federal gun free school zone act. The act has been an abysmal failure nationally. School shooting shot up after the act passed. The federal law was ruled unconstitutional in 1995, and under heavy lobbying from President Clinton, was passed again, with slight modification, in 1996. One of those modifications was to put an exemption in the law for people with concealed carry weapons permits.
The Wisconsin law does not have the exemption. From lakecountrynow.com:
According to the police report, another member of the buildings and grounds department approached an officer at Oconomowoc High School and reported that the woman supposedly kept a firearm in her vehicle that was parked on school premises.
Approached by an officer, the woman denied having a firearm but admitted to having the stun gun. The officer accompanied her to the vehicle, and she retrieved it from the glove box.I do not know what sort of interpersonal dynamics led one co-worker to claim that the accused woman had a gun in her vehicle. Perhaps the co-worker had learned that the woman had a concealed carry permit. There is no separate "stun gun permit" in Wisconsin. This sort of harassment has been promoted by disarmists on social media such as the facebook site for Moms Demand Action.
The woman, who had a permit for the stun gun, said her husband purchased it for her protection after her vehicle was broken into one night in Milwaukee while working for another company.
Police checked state statutes to see if the electronic control device fell under the dangerous weapon statute and found that it did, and the Oconomowoc School District is pressing charges.
She shouldn’t have run her mouth about what she keeps in her car.
“Officer, No I do not have a firearm in my vehicle.
No, you may not search it.”
Why don’t people know this?
If someone told the cops she had a gun in there, that would probably count as "reasonable suspicion" allowing the cops to search without her permission.
People should pay attention to what their neighbors are voting for, I guess.
Kerfluffle over stun gun in glove box puts Oconomowoc school employee on leave.
FReep Mail me if you want on, or off, this Wisconsin interest ping list.
Gov. should pardon her. Good campaign visuals.
You are so right. It would be great. Governor Walker standing up for common sense, the Democrats all wanting to hang the school worker...
The left likes to put innocent, non-violent people in jail and take their guns.
Meanwhile, it intentionally leaves guns in the hands of violent criminals.
No surprise. This country is in process of criminalizing good acts and encouraging criminal acts.
To get rid of Democrats, we need to beam them all up to another planet - just them, together, with modern technology, safe and sound, not a hair on their precious snowflake heads harmed.
BUT - Just Democrats. No one else. With no hardships, plenty of food and energy, everything they need to live happily on a beautiful new clean planet.
Within ten years, no one would be left alive. The only thing on their planet would be death camps full of bodies, and mansions full of bodies.
It’s the only thing they really know how to do.
“reasonable suspicion” is NOT a warrant!
People should flee the communist states
It is less of a swing state than before.
Problem is mainly democrats posing as Republicans.
The last Republican AG wanted no hard fights about anything. Did not back up Republicans much at all for anything.
Walker has avoided hard fights about anything since winning the recall election 2 years ago. Two years wasted not getting stuff like this corrected.
The Assembly is strong Republican and there are no problems if a few stragglers stay with democrats. Not a problem.
The Senate was a problem because of a slim majority and we had one rino up north who was our McCain. He’s gone and we have a larger majority so it should work a lot better even if 1 or 2 senators are putzes.
Could be he’s got his eyes on the Whitehouse.
Just saying.
The state is not communist.
The state law never got changed to be in sync with the fact the federal law was ruled unconstitutional. It would not have happened from 1995-2002 because we didn’t even have concealed carry and open carry people were harassed by cops. It would not have happened between 2002-2010 because we had a democrat governor and the senate was democrat. When Walker became Governor and we had control of both chambers and the AG, concealed carry passed and it was not perfect, of course. They could have fixed it later but have not, and that’s something I wish they would do.
You can’t label the whole state communist because ofthe commies in Madison and Milwaukee. You pull those two out and everywhere else you have gun owners and hunters.
I have stated when Walker won the recall in 2012 that was when the campaign for the White House for him, began. And thus ended doing anything very hard/controversial that needs to be done, still.
I was born and raised in Oconto county. We moved in 1970 when I was ten. Guns were part of the culture there. I remember people carrying long guns and handguns and nobody batting an eye. I have no idea what the laws were.
I started researching how gun laws varied across the states later in life and some are indeed in violation of the Second Amendment. I call these communist states. It sounds as if WI is heading back to freedom. Congrats.
I get your point. I certainly agree that it was like that. Problem was, as you know, we just didn’t have enough of the right people in the right places for so long, to get it through.
Now that they are even more entrenched it is important that they fix these problems and make it airtight. I wish they’d go constitutional carry and fix the stupid school issue.
