Democrats should welcome a Scott Walker-led GOP ticket [will break back of conservative base]
The Washington Post ^ | February 6, 2015 | James Downie

Posted on 02/06/2015 8:40:59 AM PST by Cincinatus' Wife

"... Among candidates that the conservative base consider “real” conservatives(as opposed to Jeb Bush and Chris Christie, apostates on various key issues),Walker is the most likely to win the Republican nomination.And Democrats should hope he gets the nod.

The fundamentals suggest that the 2016 election will be extremely competitive. With economic growth picking up and President Obama’s approval rating trending back toward 50 percent,Democrats have a real chance now to capture a third term in the White House,historically a tough ask. But under all but the best conditions,Hillary Clinton will need every advantage she can get. As John Sides and Lynn Vavreck show in their must-read 2012 postmortem “The Gamble,”polls suggest that Obama,not Mitt Romney,was the candidate less ideologically similar to the average voter,and Obama’s liberalism may have cost him several percentage points with independent voters. It must be noted that truly independent voters(not voters who say they are independent but almost always vote for one of the parties)make up a small percentage of the electorate. But in what the fundamentals suggest will be a very close race,running a more moderate Democrat in Clinton against a stridently more conservative Republican in Walker could provide that 1 percent difference.

Furthermore, a losing Walker-led ticket would provide the best proof for the GOP base that the “our guy would have won if he was more conservative” argument is a myth. As much as outsiders rolled their eyes at post-election claims that Romney and John McCain “weren’t conservative,”it’s certainly true that they were on the more moderate side of their respective primary fields. It’d be impossible to claim that with Walker(though some will no doubt try).Maybe, just maybe,that will be enough to stop or at least stall the Republican Party’s sprint to the right and finally bring the GOP back to the bargaining table.

From the article the WaPo linked to...

“The expected shortfall for the next two-year state budget starting in July has risen to nearly $1.8 billion, or about half of what it was when Gov. Scott Walker took office in January 2011.”

Isn’t that an improvement?!

Do you even know what Walker has accomplished in Wisconsin? By the way, Cruz is not eligible to run for president. While he is native born, he is not natural born.

There is a marked difference between bullying and slopping up weak, apologizing defense for a so nondescript illegal immigration defense. It is nonexistent right now. Why give him so much time? He should have a concrete thought. He should exain more fully now. I don’t have to drink the koolaid or hold my nose, again. I will not. Thank you.

My interest in Walker just ticked up a tad. If WaPo says he is easy for Mrs. Bill then they are afraid of him.Now kf he will get really strong and insistent on Building the Wall and throwing the illegals out, he would be my guy.

There was a story last week, the freeper Xzins I know participated in it in case anyone wants to look it up and how really, the Red States should nominate the candidate and then, those in blue states should have to follow that advise. Really, ideally, this is the way it should be.

The Red States in general are going to vote for whomever the GOP candidate is. So, I’d be happy for them to select the candidate and leave it to the Blues to vote.

The article showed maybe California has more Republican voters than oh, I don’t know, some red states, Chicago has more Republican voters than West Virginia but still in these areas of Chicago or California, the liberals/Democrats are more numerous.

So if Dakotas, Texas, the South, Indiana and Kansas general, Wyoming and other states selected the nominee, I think that would be for the best. So in this way, the system is a bit broken.

LOL! The RATS are getting nervous. With past GOP preferences, such GHW Bush (2nd term) Bob Dole, McCain and Romney, no wonder they’re concerned. Walker or Cruz could make it all the way, while old lady Clinton stumbles and falls every time she opens her yap.

Walker is apparently sorting out an issue on immigration. I will give him a break until we come up with a coherent fatwa from him. Consider this he is the only Republican candidate who actually accomplished a conservative reform without it just being another big business break. That is all the more reason to consider him.

Laura Ingraham, talk show host has this summation on Walker too.

http://www.lauraingraham.com/b/2016-Contender-Governor-Scott-Walker:-Obamas-Exec-Amnesty-Hurting-Middle-Class-Americans,-GOP-Must-Block-Funding/-586611805232419806.html

So I agree, Walker has not all of a sudden changed by how the wind blows. This does need to be ironed out.

For example, from the link:

“Walker on whether GOP should use power of the purse to block Obama’s executive amnesty: “Absolutely.” [10:15]

Walker: “I believe this president measures success in government, by how many people are dependent on the government. By how many people are on Medicaid, by how many people are on food stamps, by how many people are on unemployment. We should measure success in this country by just the opposite – by how many people are no longer dependent on the government— not because we pushed them out into the cold, but because we understand that the reason we are exceptional is in this country the true freedom of prosperity doesn’t come from the mighty hand of the government; it comes from the power and people that control their own lives and their own destinies, and the dignity that comes from work. There’s a reason why in this country we take a day off to celebrate the 4th of July and not the 15th of April— because we celebrate our independence from the government not dependence on it.” [12:45]”

And there are a number of quotes like this on that page.

He must define himself on the border. I will not vote for another open border RINO, but will instead stay home.

Just sayin’, I too am opposed to amnesty but:

The Immigration Reform and Control Act (IRCA), Pub.L. 99–603, 100 Stat. 3445, enacted November 6, 1986, also known as the Simpson-Mazzoli Act, signed into law by Ronald Reagan on November 6, 1986, is an Act of Congress which reformed United States immigration law. The Act[1]
##required employers to attest to their employees’ immigration status;
##made it illegal to hire or recruit illegal immigrants knowingly;
##legalized certain seasonal agricultural illegal immigrants, and;
##legalized illegal immigrants who entered the United States before January 1, 1982 and had resided there continuously with the penalty of a fine, back taxes due, and admission of guilt; candidates were required to prove that they were not guilty of crimes, that they were in the country before January 1, 1982, and that they possessed minimal knowledge about U.S. history, government, and the English language.

At the time, the Immigration and Naturalization Service estimated that about four million illegal immigrants would apply for legal status through the act and that roughly half of them would be eligible.[2]

I have in-laws in WI who slightly left of center

They voted FOR Walker in the recall because they do not like the concept of recalls (hyper democracy etc)

Also the Dems ran a real cutie in 2014

I agree he is not popular amongst the Badgers

The left must really fear Scott Walker. They are taking their long knives out already.

As far as Walker not yet having established his positions down to the last detail - for heaven’s sake, give him time. He has not yet even tossed his hat into the ring.

Not so odd is the Washington Post’s position on Walker, however. They are trying their darndest to split the GOP before any of the debates or position papers have discussed or written.

Folks, now is the time for us to be vigilant and critical as to intent of these newspaper journalists. They are certainly not in the conservative camp, and they mean no good for any of our potential candidates.

Good God people, the election is 2 YEARS AWAY...Scott Walker will have to display every corpuscle in his body before them. He has destroyed the entire Democrat war machine by turning back the union thugs from Illinois and the rest of the country....He did this three times in a predominantly liberal state.He does not have a halo over his head and he must take stands on controversial issues, but let’s noy bury him while he is still breathing.....and NO, Hillary can’t beat him if Republicans get off their lazy asses and VOTE for a change.

You did that the last TWO times...Obama thanks you...the rest of the country thinks that you are an idiot.

I was told here on FR just a few days ago that it was both Walker AND the WI legislature who conspired to delver WI to Obama in 2012. Do you have any exculpatory information excusing the legislature?

You need to stay as far away from intoxicating beverages (or other substances) as you possibly can...Walker has been the ONLY breath of hope in Wisconsin since LaFollette

Summary from above : Walker is too conservative to beat Hillary and after he loses to her the GOP will run more moderate candidates so they can win again.

Of course Walker won three WI elections in the past four years and WI is hardly Teaxs.

Furthermore, he has compounded that unpopularity by not taking on the Right to Work legislation

Pay real close attention, he has virtually destroyed unions in Wisconsin...The teachers union workers, much to their credit have become right to workers!!
