The Religion Of Peace Strikes Again

Muslim terrorists have murdered 12 people at satirical newspaper Charlie Hebdo in Paris. The newspaper recently ran cartoons mocking Mohammed and ISIS. This newspaper was firebombed by Muslims in 2011, so apparently there’s a history of Muslims attacking these people. Parisians are understandably shocked over this barbarous act of terrorism. As well they should be, God help western civilization when it gets to the point that acts of terrorism don’t shock us anymore. Especially so when we’re talking about the acts of barbarian Muslim terrorists.

Since the 9-11 attacks on New York and Washington, Muslim terrorists have attacked London, Boston, Frankfurt, New Delhi and now Paris. This in addition to attacks on the Australian Embassy in Indonesia, the attack at Fort Hoot as well as attempts to behead British soldiers and explode car bombs in Times Square. The religion of peace has a tenancy towards extreme violence against anyone who disagrees with them. Howard Dean was very quick this morning to condemn calling these people Muslim terrorists. Dean and the left might want to pretend like Islam and terrorism are separate but with so many attacks by Muslims it’s nearly impossible to separate the two. Considering that Mohammed advocated conversion by the sword, it’s hardly surprising that modern Muslims would extend that teaching to include bombs and machine guns.

The media in Europe has been up in arms over the last few years over the rise of the so-called far right in France, Germany, The Netherlands and elsewhere. We should not make the mistake of tying the right in Europe to the right here in America. The right in Europe is still socialist, they still believe in a massive welfare state. What earns them the label of far right by the liberal press is that they’re anti-immigrant. There have been protests all over Germany for the past several months. Many Germans are disturbed by the increased presence of Muslims in their country. Muslims have created all sorts of problems, not the least of which is the threat of terrorism. France and The Netherlands have seen far right parties gain political power. Not all of the anti-immigrant sentiment is aimed at Muslims, it’s also aimed at the European Union which allows immigration between member states as though it were the United States. Europe has never been the United States in this regard. The French would rather keep out Muslims who threaten the country with terrorism or poor Europeans who end up on the shadowy outside of French society. They appear more than willing to put up with the British and Germans, no matter how obnoxious, so long as they provide something to society.

Today’s Muslim terrorist attack is only going to increase protests against loose European immigration policies. Germany’s anti-immigrant protests have picked up steam over the last month, it’s likely to continue. The French far-right party led by le Pen is likely to pick up support due to this terrorist attack. The EU is already facing increased opposition from the European hoi polloi and this will only get worse as the far-right gets more popular with the average Frenchman or German who is tired of dealing with menacing Muslims. It won’t topple the EU of course, only a financial collapse is likely to do that. However it will make the lives of EU technocrats more difficult.

At what point does western civilization recognize that the danger is Islam? The left pretends like the Muslims are a downtrodden group trying to achieve social justice via bombings and other terrorist attacks. The left may generally oppose Muslim terrorism but they sympathize with their imagined quest at social justice. The issue isn’t that Muslims are a downtrodden group, the issue is that their holy text calls for the forced conversion or murder of infidels. Those who believe the Koran are more than willing to do Allah’s work. This is a holy war that Muslims are fighting and western civilization is foolishly allowing free immigration of holy warriors into our countries. Unfortunately this isn’t surprising considering that western Europe in particular has rejected religious faith altogether. Europe these days doesn’t understand the concept of a holy war. Their enemies do and they’re apparently quite successful in hitting their targets as Paris saw this morning.

BTW, my comments here are with regard to Christian faith as THE organizing principle of society, not individual faith.

To my mind, the plural nature of Protestantism meant that this faded earlier in Protestant countries. Lasted longer in many if not most Catholic areas, but when it do go, the change was faster.

So go the elites in society, so go the peasants.

Hitler was born in the 19th century in Austria. If you look at baptism records from 19th century Austria you’ll discover that the majority of children were bastards. Divorce was common, so was abandonment. The peasants may have participated in historic church rituals such as baptisms and holy days but the way they lived their lives was anything but Christian. France was much the same. The church remained part of peasant life but it was completely disconnected from how people lived their lives.

That doesn’t mean there weren’t devout Catholics among the peasantry in these countries. I read a biography of Hitler’s childhood awhile back, with regards to the church life of the people it reminded me of the US today. The church exists in the background. It jumps on center stage for special days like xmas or rituals like baptism but once those are out of the way it fades into the background and people return to behaving like godless animals.

I’m afraid we’re just going to disagree on this one.

This is not at all the impression I’ve gotten from reading about the period from 1600 to 1900.

As I said, Catholic countries have always been odd in that people who turn away from the Church often developed a strident anti-clericalism. Which in a strange way shows a continued attachment.

Protestants have always been much more likely to just become indifferent.
