Louie Gohmert challenges Boehner for House Speaker
Canada Free Press ^ | 01/05/15 | Dan Calabrese

One thing you can certainly say for Louie Gohmert is that he wouldn't be afraid of the media, and too often that has been Boehner's downfall in going up against Obama

I love Louie Gohmert, and I lost my patience with John Boehner a long time ago as House Speaker, but I’m still not finding myself getting too excited about Gohmert challenging Boehner for the speakership. Here’s why, in a nutshell:

Gohmert’s not going to win. The number of House conservatives willing to participate in a rebellion against Boehner at this point is maybe 20 or so. That’s out of 247 in the caucus. Having worked this long to get back control of the Senate, neither House nor Senate Republicans seems interested in throwing over their experienced leader for someone new. The job of the House Speaker involves a lot more than just being conservative. Before he was in the leadership, Boehner’s voting record was quite conservative - enough so that a lot of conservatives were pretty happy to see him elevated when it first started happening. The Speaker has to make a lot of decisions concerning legislative strategy and other inside baseball that don’t have as much to do with ideology as people think. When Gohmert vows to “fight tooth and nail” on certain things, that’s great, but the question is more how you fight, and which fights you choose. There’s a difference between thinking conservative things and being savvy enough to make them happen.

As always, someone must challenge the Speaker. It was tried with Nancy and I guess John is no different. It is a nice little drama until reality hits. Gives some comic relief in the midst of finishing the holidays.

As long as that POS doesn’t suck up to the other POS in the White House we might be okay.

Sounds like whistling passed the graveyard.
Bonher has angered good people who put their money up to get Republicans elected so he could stop Obama.
Bonher has betrayed the people and I’m not sure he survives his skullduggery.

..."the question is more how you fight, and which fights you choose."

We're tired of it always turning into "We'll fight like Hell -- NEXT TIME." (but in the meantime. we'll just roll over and play dead...)

Tomorrow never comes. Enough!!!

He will be voted as Speaker of the House shortly. Bottom line. All this drama is for entertainment.

What's that supposed to mean?

Now the protest vote is splitting, which helps Boehner.

Not really. Speaker needs a majority, not a plurality.

Not buying his argument.

I see nothing that ‘Experienced Leader’ has learned that demands he stay as Speaker.

In fact, he is compromised.

What he did years ago before he was Speaker is irrelevant. It has no bearing on what he’s doing now.

NOT BUYING IT!

I’m pretty sure the plan is just to get the ball rolling by getting past the first ballot. If they can get to the second or third round of voting you will likely see somebody like Jeb Hensarling emerge who would be acceptable to the mainstream GOP rep. He would be a sight better than Boehner. At this point anybody but Boehner.

I see you have some stalwart conservatives in your signature, both I could and would support.
Is Bonher your guy? Have you placed any calls to Capitol Hill to ask for his removal?
Or have you surrendered to the status quo?
These lapdogs on both sides of the Isle who serve the global corporate banking cabal must be removed if the United States of America and its people are to remain free.

My rep is a Dem. But I am contacting other Republican reps in my state.

Just called Rep. Labrador's office directly and said I wanted Raul to vote for Louie Gohmert. Asked about the call volume and he said they've been getting lots of calls.

Peace, Sean_Anthony,

Everyone on FR should call their representatives today and instruct them to vote for Gohmert or Yoho for Speaker. If back-stabbing Boehner doesn't get the majority of votes, he will not be speaker. He doesn't deserve the job and his experience is bad for the future of the United States.

Boehner is not my guy, but you are a broken record year after year. You get yourselves slobbering over yourself thinking that Gohmert or someone besides Boehner is going to be the Speaker and then you cry for months when it doesn't happen. The problem with you is that you don't have a realistic bone in your body. You seem to live in this fantasy where if you hope it happens it will. In the real world this announcement is for entertainment purposes only. It is the same show every two years with the same results. Same thing happens with Democrats too and liberals slobber all over themselves with Nancy getting the boot and loe and behold she is Speaker again. Such immaturity and stupidity among many.

‘I see nothing that ‘Experienced Leader’ has learned that demands he stay as Speaker.’

Agree. Boehner is the worst negotiator in history. He used to stake out a tough position, trumpet it loudly, and then fold the instant the Dems/Obama talked tough. Now he skips the first two steps and just folds. If this is ‘experience’ we need less of it.

I am glad someone is challenging him because Congress will continue to be a rubber stamp for Obama for certain.
