But theres nothing that guarantees anyone the right to practice his religion on someone elses property...
How many bakers have been forced to follow their customer's religious beliefs within the baker's property?

Good for the French on this one. I agree. They show a lot more backbone than the US.

But theres nothing that guarantees anyone the right to practice his religion on someone elses property, so maybe following Frances lead on this one in the private sector is a better way to go than walking on politically correct eggshells. We Americans seem seem to be experts at that when it comes to all things Islam. I am certainly baffled by all of the concessions that have been made to Islam in this country in the past decade or so.
For example allowing Muslim cab drivers to refuse customers who have dogs or have recently consumed alcohol because of religious beliefs.
However Christian business owners can not refuse homosexual customers for similar reasons.
Seems there is a double standard for religious convictions going on in this country of late.

I don't think the Burka ban is a restriction on a public symbol of "religious orientation." If so they would have to ban kippahs and cross pendants.
It's a restriction on clothing that covers the face and prevents facial identification.
Shouldn't matter if its a burka or a balaclava or a Halloween mask that looks like Ronald McDonald or George W. Bush or Daffy Duck. Or a ski mask or a scarf. You don't hide your face in public.

France has a history of trying jealously to guard against foreign adulteration of their culture. This is more a cultural statement than a religious issue. But good for France, standing up for some cultural integrity.
